AnonD-212255, 27 Apr 2014Wow. Some of you simply do not get it. Perhaps it's na&ium... moreI am afraid it's you who doesn't get it... Especially when you compare it with recalls (not just automotive, but comp/electronics industry as well). A recall means they will fix your item (replace or repair), no matter whether it actually exhibits the problem, just because of an identified flaw and risks that it poses. This program, however, doesn't do that -- Apple ONLY replaces the freakin' button if it actually fails, AND ONLY if your phone qualifies. So, it's an extension (of sorts, because it only covers one part) to their standard 1-year warranty, but nothing similar to a recall, and definitely not worth any kind of news coverage. Pure marketing that costs them next to nothing, but lets them to show how good they are. And they are only good at marketing, anyway (oh, and patent trolling, of course)... :)

Wow. Some of you simply do not get it. Perhaps it's naïveté and not realizing how the world works The argument that there shouldn't ever be ANY quality control issues because the phone commands a premium price is ridiculous .

After the sale of millions of devices, is it really that inconceivable that a batch here or there might of had an issue with....gasp...a power button?

You might want to read about auto recalls due to a faulty chip or switch on cars that cost tens of thousands of dollars. Even luxury brands aren't immune as BMW has had several such recalls.

              Welcome to the real world.

zoks, 27 Apr 2014should not be that replacement as standard reclamation proc... moreThe answer is simple! Marketing! this is Apple for you, they always try to be the good guys telling the world that they can do good things when bad things have happened to their products. They simply wants to tell the world that: Hey! we are Apple we are going to fix your problem for free, we are doing you a favour, some people will think: What a nice effort from Apple to look after customers, lets go with Apple its peace of mind. Other manufactures just simply fix the problems without any marketing or any bum about it, however! they are losing face because they don't make a big deal about it...Apple the forbidden fruit.

apple warranty is only 1 year, so potentially this is for people with an out of warranty handset i guess.

should not be that replacement as standard reclamation procedure? Why this special announcements on something which should be anyway replaced by standard 2 year guarantee?

Why is there a need for news on something that every warranty covers anyway? Of course they have to fix it if it's broken, be it Apple, Samsung, HTC or anyone else. Just not sure why it needs news coverage...

I'm wondering why my friend's iPhone 5 got trouble pressing the sleep/wake button. I knew it because i was playing with it and my friend says the same. For me, this is a good move. Good job! I know it's a bit late but better late than never though :)

This is the OFFICIAL replacement program, after analysing and determining the power button in certain batches to contain a design flaw.

However, what you bashers conveniently ignore is that Apple never turned away people with power button problems in the first case. My cousin faced this problem and Apple promptly replaced his phone with a brand new one.

This program merely identified the problem and put in place a 'part' replacement program. As ever, Apple customer service is still a big reason why many love this company.
