Anonymous, 14 Jul 2014Correct, the consumer segment for Xiaomi overlaps way more ... moreWhen it comes to mobile phones in China, Apple and Samsung are two must-have brands in the eyes of consumers. They are the status system amongst younger people. All I hear from my colleagues is how they want a 5s, S4, S5, Note 3 or waiting for the upcoming iPhone 6. I don't hear any of them talking about how they want a mi3, although some own one, they bought it because it represented an outstanding value and can be purchased for less than a months salary where it would take 2+ months salary to own Apple or Samsung's flagship.

Xiaomi is not affecting the sales of high end Samsung mobiles in China, if anything they're chipping away at the low end and mid-range offerings. The people who buy a Mi3 would have not otherwise bought a S5 or Note 3, but maybe a Galaxy Grand.

If Xiaomi does well, it will probably take market share from Samsung.

As it is, Samsung already blames China (as well as Europe) for its latest poor financial results, so that is already partial evidence for the above conclusion:

Seems like Xiaomi phones are really going downhill. It used to be when they introduced a phone, it was a flagship killer, but the Mi3 and now rumored Mi4 are complete disappointments. The Mi2(S) is the last great Xiaomi. Time to look for something else.

Whilst the MI 4 may not be the OPTIMAL phone as regards to specs Xiaomi phones have stayed super, super affordable in the high middle to high end phones

IMO phones phones today add little as specs on smartphone are more adequate for a person,

There are less "NEW" specs added to todays phones than say 7 years ago so upgrading adds less and less.

The market today especially emerging market is for new "entrants" so unless your phone is broke or lost there is no need to upgrade so frequently

I would expect there to be more people who ditch say a numeric phone and get the MI 4 than MI 3 upgrade from MI 3 to MI 4

I see more smart phones than 2G phones so Xiaomi is in fact captuing more of the consumer base and being super, super affordable holding prices down to the high end market

if memory serves the Xiaomi was $265 so less than $400 for a Quad Core is well.... good

16GB and no SD card slot is not appreciable between uses now a days. OS takes atleast 8GB. This does not allow users to use more than 8GB.

Mi-4 potentially steals a lot of market share from Apple even before the iPhone6's launch!

If Mi-4 can further refine the UI and make it more international like HTC's Sense or Sony Xperia Z's UI, then it will steals more share from Android.

Xiaomi must also release a larger Mi-4, and name it as Mi-4 Max that come with 6 To 6.5" full HD display! It will compete with HTC One Max & Sony Xperia Z2 Ultra.
