Or Nexus mini ... moreBecause no one would buy them. I work for a company that sells the Sony z1 compact. Nobody touches it with a barge pole. 90% of people want 5" absolute minimum from my observations, with most opting for 5.2 and above.
Personally I'm using a 4.3" at the moment but my next phone will be at least 5.5"

5.9" cant be called a phone. I suppose Google will also start nexus and nexus mini.

Google exec also confirmed that Nexus line isn't dead, it will launch alongside with Android Silver, which makes me think the Silver branding will replace GPE instead of Nexus.

Moto X was rubbish for the asking price at launch. They thought they can pull an Apple and expect hordes of zealots to buy it, it didn't turn out that way for obvious reasons. Maybe Lenovo has cleaned out the morons who ran management when it was Motorola as a subsidiary under Google, then maybe there is hope of a decently priced phone. However it remains to be seen if Nexus is even alive with talks of Silver getting stronger.

If it's made by Lenovo there is hope, if it's made by Motorola controlled management it will be under powered and overpriced.
All that said it is unlikely to be the nexus phone because there is little evidence to actually support the claim that nexus hasn't been dropped. More evidence coming in that "Silver" will be Google's new focus. They are done with subsidized phones to evangelize Android. Nexus was not making Google any money.

Hopefully, it will have a superb slide out keyboard - something Moto did so well with the original droids. A larger form factor = large keys too!
