You cannot woo everyone with Samsung touchwiz, people start experience hang & lag now and then in samsung phones even with only a few apps installed and using dialer, messaging , phonebook services. To increase the sales they should either reduce the rates of upgrade the hardware. Its a good company but then its no more a first choice for customers now.

Anonymous, 30 Jul 2014It's not that hard if they just change the damm design. Its very hard, lg, sony, htc, huawei etc. Are going to release better and better devices which can compete with samsung. Competition inside android is very big and now it also shows in samsung numbers.

Samsung is the only one which unit sales actually went down. This just shows how big problems samsung is facing. The whole year have been very bad for samsung and for sure end of the year isnt going to be much better.

Samsung knows how hard its going to make money with android in the future.

What the failed to mention in this article is the reason why each company did well or bad. In Samsung's case, it's because of the low and mid range phone and not the Galaxy S5. Please add more detail so Samsung and Apple fan boys will stop fighting and they'll know why exactly either "side" is doing poorly.

Good, Samsung needs to improve their customer support and software support drastically. Also change up their tired as* designs that they use yearly.

AnonD-288999, 30 Jul 2014This was bound to happen! Samsung is no longer the company ... moreThey treat customers like they are an unwanted nuisance once they have your money. Their track record on updates is appalling and they are still playing around and not delivering. For example, take the Note 2. The came up with every excuse under the sun why they could not put the latest OS updates on it until just after the Note 3 was out and then all of a sudden they all appeared. Now while Sony, Motorola and others are all getting Android 4.4.3 on 4.4.4 Samsung cannot even be bothered to make an announcement and are still pushing out 4.4.2 builds. One guess when 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 will arrive for the Note 3. Just after the Note 4 ships with it already running 4.4.4 or later. We are not fools Samsung we know when we are been taken for fools!

Samsung really need to trace and cut down undercut markets and spreading of grey pieces, if it need to stay on top.
It can damage its own market value by ignoring this dangerous issue as retailers continue to divert the Samsung enquirers by showcasing only the cons of Samsung models to buy other brands and where the grey piece is not a threat to their profit margin.

Samsung must learn from brands like Xolo in tracking and killing the grey piece distribution.

This is an undiscovered truth that cannot be ignored.

In emerging countries, the low end segment is where the growth is for companies. Samsung competes in the low end with worst specs and bitter price tag while local brands offer much better specs than entry level Samsung phones at economical prices which shifts the tech savvy consumers to these local brands for a better smartphone at an affordable price. Samsung is losing the battle in the entry level segment in emerging countries like India.

Falling profits, falling shipments, and falling market share. The numbers don't lie. Samsung is in trouble — period.

FreezeGame, 30 Jul 2014Catchy title, but not even close to defining the real story... moreAll the title said was Samsung lost ground. Nothing in the title implied that they would lose their spot. Stop being so defensive. Nokia was also destroying the competition, but in a fast moving industry their lead evaporated quickly. Samsung lost market share and shipped lower numbers. The other major players increased their shipment numbers. Even Samsung acknowledges that increased pressure on the low and mid end will affect their business.
