A Google phone with a MediaTek SoC? no thanks.. Mediatek is well known for not supporting its processors. They'd rather get a new processor every 4 months production cycle than release drivers for its older SoC's in order to get a new version of android on that device..

Redmi 1s has better specs with lower price than this.
If google entered to guide the phone developer for this, then I'm very much disappointed

What exactly are you expecting for $115? Flagship specs. 4Gb internal memory is sufficient for the intended target audience for these devices. These devices are supposed to be entry level. For first time smartphone buyers.

What a piece of junk. Only 4Gb of internal storage makes this device absolutely worthless even for a low end device

xiaomi redmi 1s is the most jhatu phone I had ever bcz it hang too much and heat very quickly it has only 300 mb ram free for apps and 700 mb alredy used by their own apps .....but if you root that phone the it will be most brilliant phone in this price tag it has a very clean camera ..after all it gives an avg. performance

Good to see Android one coming sooner.

Xiaomi might only sell about 100,000 phones or so at cost. its just an exercise to establish the brand like it happened with the Mi3. once they are done with the 1s stocks. they will move on with newer models and its not going to be as cheap and to add to that, their flash sale model is a pain in the... where ever it hurts the most!

Android One is the way ahead for low cost phones. and these devices are going to get updates straight from Google. Android L will seed next month or so. Also more manufacturers will be making android one phones, so the competition will be fierce once again and supply will be abundant. What you get is native android experience (i dont like the word "stock") and future updates.

those who think this is "junk" xiaomi will be stuck with 4.3! which today is already junk! well, atleast you have your awesome hardware to flaunt, Good luck.

Xiaomi will never be a competition. They bring only 20K units and later say 40000 sold in less than 5 second is a mere cheap tricks to grab the attention. When potential customers cannot buy when they need, xiaomi's brand is questionable. By the time xiaomi sells 40K units(they take 1 week to clear stocks, not seconds), 400K Android one and Moto e sets will be sold.

Wow, the way comments are displayed on the article is really weird. The "If you want a heavily skinned, old OS" comment is a reference to a Xiaomi phone, the Redmi 1S, not the Android One. The Android One has Android 4.4.4 and will get fast updates.
