As a Google fan I am getting impatient over the wait for a new Nexus phone and 10 (or more) inch tablet. Here´s what I would like from the next nexus:
-No QHD, in exchange for better batery life,
-A 13mp camera or significant upgrade from Nexus 5
- simple but sturdy construction - Nexus 5 was OK but needs to be stronger,
-Much beter battery life (can´t stress this enough times!!!!)
- And the traditional Google simplicity (over gimmicry), OS stability, cleverness.

In summary the Nexus should fit the needs of a consumer that appreciates technology, simplicity, functionality over questionable bells and whistles, usability (battery is important) and good media capturing (priamry and secodnary cameras).

Go Google! and hurry up!

P., 17 Sep 2014It's so because of two reasons: 1) Google must reduce manu... moreI agree it's all cost saving measures, but I'm pretty sure the decision making is all on the Google side (to ensure a low price point), not LG and some supposed need to make an "inferior" no-brand-alike product in order to not sacrifice their own branded sales.

Think of it as Wallmart does when it reaches out to manufactures to make their own versions. It's Wallmart that tells the manufacturer what to cut in order to reach a designated price point (not the other way around).

The fact the Nexus line is getting the same base internals as the very top LG model is more of a testament of how good the Nexus line really is (rather than a derogatory note).

AnonD-146024, 17 Sep 2014Silver would aim to deliver high-end devices with stock use... moreNO, it isn't.

The Nexus range has always been aimed for the power-hungry tech enthusiast, which isn't quite the same as just the premium device seeker (the one which wants tip-top build quality, only with the best materials and top design).

Put a Nexus 5 side-by-side with an HTC One (M8) or a Sony Xperia Z2 and things should become self-explanatory (not that there is anything wrong with the Nexus, become there really isn't!).

Isn't this what a nexus device is?

                  1) Google must reduce manufacturing costs
                  2) Nexus device must have reduced capabilities compared to it's "mother" device.

E.g. Nexus 5 is produced by LG and shares main parts with LG G2. It must have weaker specs than G2, because in other way noone would buy G2 which is considerably expensive.

At the contrary, they need sufficient battery life for at least one FULL day. QHD has minimum impact on the user perception and consumes too much energy.

I own Nexus 5 and although it provides a great user experience , it has a very weak battery restricting its use during the day. Also, I wish I had additional storage over a micro SD.

Nexus is not pure Android. Nexus is pure Google.
It's Android + Google proprietary applications.

Android Silver line was invented to let manufacturers produce hardware and let Google provide software and updates.
In Nexus case - only one manufacturer got deal with Google, but others got yet another concurent in market.

                          Long live the Nexus!

The Silver program didn't make that much sense, anyway, from the manufacturer point of view. It makes it harder to do product differentiation. They would have to compete only on hardware.

Of course, I think it would have been better for the users, but that is not always what makes companies the most money.

If Google was serious this they would just license Android instead and require anyone who wants to use to to use a stock version. It would be easy to enforce. But expecting the manufactuers to willingly cut off one of the best avenue of product differentiation is silly.

AnonD-215124, 17 Sep 2014Stock android is crap, who would want a premium android pho... moreI totally disagree. Stock (Google) Android is the only version that has design and functional consistency and performance optimization end-to-end. If you take Samsung as an example, can produce premium hardware products with rich and powerful specs but the performance is below expectations when they place TouchWiz on top. Disregarding the TouchWiz design which is the most subjective to judge, its existence puts an additional software layer that consumes recources unnecessarily, while it does not conform, harmonically, with the OS, under the hood. I think that if they have launched a software suite, on top of stock Android, instead of TouchWiz that would be great. That suite could have provide the additional functionality needed to run the premium hardware (sensors, cameras, etc) and add more feature-rich software (for photos, videos, etc) with soft UI improvements. That would be enough to differentiate from competition except all others (quality, hardware, marketing, brand name)...
