I am not American, but their lack of presence in the USA to sell on expensive contracts to stupid consumers means that they are overlooked by an ignorant, but loud-mouthed, US media... and because English is the lingua-franca, especially in science and technology, whatever the loud-mouthed dumb Americans says is heard in other countries, having a significant effect globally of the dumb masses who unquestioningly believe all the hype they read and are brainwashed by in the mainstream media.
All the other things that people here are moaning about are nonsense. Sony's products are already higher quality than the competition, and already are one of the most open with respect to updates and the development community (and please don't moan that you not having some update or another is the reason -- Samdung isn't any better) . Most people don't have a clue about updates because most people are stupid. The way to sell is to get the stupid masses to buy your products on contracts -- contracts where the stupid masses don't even know how much they are paying.
It really sickens me to see Sony struggling financially, as they are one of the true innovators on actual rather than the bullsh1tters. Journalists in the mainstream media should hang their heads in shame, for they have done great damage to the advancement of technology through their mindless obsession over products from crApple and Samdung.

They dont have a chance against the rapid rise of the Chinese brands, i wouldnt be surprised if they sell the Xperia rights to some Chinese, much like Google sold Motorola, Xperia will be the second victim of Chinas takeover in the mobile market.

My guess is Sony won't be alone in this i.e. big manufacturer running into losses from smartphone sales this year. Other big manufacturers like HTC, LG, Lenovo, etc. The reason being low cost phones from Xiaomi, Micromax, others have now become good enough to deliver acceptable performance with reasonable price. Android One program is going to make further dent in this space.
The only exceptions being Samsung whose sales although declining still has good enough Market share after apple to sustain profitability and Motorola which has been innovative with products like Moto G and Moto E to compete with like low cost phones.
Big companies need a new business strategy and fast if they want to survive.

Well... you see Sony, your decision of not upgrading many models to Kitkat will definitely affect you more in the future. Personally I have Xperia SP (which will not get Kitkat from Sony) I think I will never buy a smartphone from Sony again.

Release your Z series like usual in Q1, then the Z Compact series with the newer internals in Q3/Q4 just like Samsung, but your 2nd device will be smaller instead of bigger! Then Z phones will battle against Galaxy S devices while Z Compact will battle against Note series! Sounds great to me!!

Sony Mobile Warranty in my country ( Indonesia ) so hard ( minimum 1 month ), even for PS4, that's why Sony Low on Sales

I hope this does't force Sony 2 use cheap-cheap materials on their products. Left 2 me they should not compromize on their innovations, style and quality of products. All they need do is 2 do a kind of promo, advertise their products more especially in African region. Their mobile products are great irrespective of what anybody says. Talkin bout update, people should understand that is even better 2 always 'put the fresh wine in a fresh wine bag'. Not when someone has an old phone he/she wants 2 always enjoy the contents of a new phone in the old one.it may happen for some time but not 2 the infinity. Sony should not give up. They should strategise the sales of their products, that?s all.

If sony concentrates only on high range segment, its obvious that they are gonna loose the mid range market as happening now.People can see what specs sony is offering when compared with other brands and startups like mi & asus. time has changed from where people used to believe high quality electronics cost more. Current generation knows high pricing of device with same specs inside and change of plastic and metal outside doesnt match the pricetags they wear, May be as a old company sony might have the advantage of service centers but things change fast and if sony cant entertain mid segment its going to fall, As high segment in phones will be gone in the coming years 'cause of startups like oneplus and mi.
i love sony, but Money centric phones make sony look like a thief.

Releasing a new flagship smartphone every 6 months with minimal improvements of hardware is going to be their demise.
Why would anyone by a Sony smartphone when people will never actually have a flagship phone because the new version on theirs is just months away. I am a huge fan of the Xperia Z line, but now I'll never buy another if this continues.
