OnePlus launches Ace 2 Pro with 150W fast charging, 24 GB RAM

Yordan, 16 August 2023

OnePlus Ace 2 Pro was announced today with plenty of intriguing specs – up to 24 GB RAM, 150W fast charging and a mighty Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The new smartphone is the first in the world with nearly 10,000 sq.mm cooling solutions, thanks to a new design of the vapor chamber developed by OnePlus.

The front of the Ace 2 Pro is a 10-bit 6.74” AMOLED with a resolution of 2772 x 1240 pixels. The screen supports a 120 Hz screen refresh rate, and it can reach 1,600 nits brightness in certain scenarios. It also comes with 100% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB color gamut, Always-On Display feature and 93.9% screen-to-body ratio.

The Qualcomm chipset is not new in the OnePlus family but is an improvement over the Ace 2. It brings a performance boost to the CPU and GPU while lowering their power consumption, and is coupled with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, neatly combined in three variants.

The vapor chamber of the Ace 2 Pro now comes with dual-circulation heat dissipation, increasing the total area to 9,140 sq. mm. This includes multiple layers of graphite and thermal gel, which are both superconductive materials, allowing the heat to disperse quicker and not overheat the internals of the device.

OnePlus did not launch the phone as a gaming headset, but there is a lot of talk about how good it is for mobile games. The whole device is wrapped with metal to serve as antennas, which is nothing new, but the Ace 2 Pro has at least 15 different elements that can act as an antenna, and there are some software improvements in Wi-Fi stability as well. On top of that, at least 100 games support a 120 Hz refresh rate.

The Ace 2 Pro is not big on cameras – it has a 50 MP main cam with PDAF and OIS, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2 MP macro shooter on the back. Nothing spectacular on the front as well – a 16 MP Samsung sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

OnePlus decided to go big on the charging instead. 150W is nothing new in the company's portfolio, as the Ace Pro also supported the same rates, but it is still impressive in a world with flagships launching with dual-digit standards. 0 to 100% is said to take 17min with the proprietary SuperVOOC charger, and the phone can also charge with any PD adapter at 45W.

The Ace 2 Pro has a SuperVOOC S power management chip that controls the screen, charging speeds, and temperature and also has a guarantee for “long-term charging protection”. The operating system of the phone is Color OS 3.1 on top of Android 13.

It is available in two colors – Aurora Green and Titanium Gray. Prices begin from CNY2,999 ($410/€375), but this price is for the 12/256 GB variant. The 16/512 GB is CNY3,399 ($465/€425), and fans of Genshin Impact can get a Paimon-branded adapter and case for an extra CNY200 for a Limited Edition box set. The mighty 24 GB RAM version comes with 1 TB storage for CNY3,999 ($550/€500).

The first sale is scheduled for next Wednesday, August 23, but the limited edition arrives seven days later. The launch is China-only, and given how the first Ace Pro relaunched as OnePlus 10T, we can only hope this device will go global as OnePlus 11T soon.
