OnePlus 12 will have the same cameras as OnePlus Open, Oppo Find N3

Yordan, 28 November 2023

OnePlus 12 will have a 50 MP main camera with a Sony LYT-808 sensor, revealed Louis Jie, the chief of the company’s operations in China. He posted a teaser showcasing all three Hasselblad-branded cameras, revealing the ultra-wide shooter will have a 48 MP sensor, while the periscope lens with 3x telephoto zoom will feature a 64 MP imager. There is also a 13-channel multi-spectral sensor to enhance the camera setup’s capabilities.

The setup sounds familiar, and that’s because it is exactly the same as on the OnePlus Open and the Oppo Find N3 - the only change is the architecture and design of the internals.

Information about the main sensor is not new, but now we have further confirmation that OnePlus decided to play it safe with its new flagship smartphone. We already reviewed the Open and the Find N3 (which are essentially the same), and we found the camera experience to be solid, both in photos and videos.

We believe the OnePlus 12 will be able to produce slightly better images for one major reason - it is coming with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Qualcomm promised AI-enhanced camera abilities in all phones with the new SoC, including Semantic Segmentation for enhancing the vibrancy and detail of images in real life, an object eraser for videos, and generative AI to extend images beyond the originally captured data.

It is up to the manufacturer to decide how to apply these features to the OnePlus 12, which will launch on December 5 in China, while the global unveiling will likely take place on January 24, 2024.
