Samsung Galaxy S6 edge review: Double down

3 April, 2015
How big of an impact can a small change have? The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge has only the extra screen curves compared to the vanilla Galaxy S6, but these two phones couldn’t feel any more different - a difference that you can readily feel when you...

This phone should probably satiate the desire of style gluttons out there, but the rest of us will feel tacit schadenfreude.

AnonD-57516, 04 Apr 2015The specified 470nits is based on the brightness bar to the... moreI've compared screen brightness of this S6 with the Note4, S5 & iPhone6 and I promise you - it was massively brighter than any of them. No exaggeration.
Not sure if that was due the other phones being used as display models for longer but the difference was astounding.
My old Note2's screen was pathetically embarrassing :S

"The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (and S6 for that matter) is the fastest mobile phone you can have at the moment and with 64-bit support in place this should remain the case for some time to come. The flagship offers top notch performance for any use case and may not be surpassed in 2015, looking at just the 5" size (obviously the Note 5 is coming and should be a bit faster)."

Fantastic! This is how a 64 bit beast should perform! Leaving no doubt who's boss. I'll bet that the competition didn't anticipate this kind of destruction.

                Often imitated but never duplicated!

AnonD-8419, 04 Apr 2015I think GSMArena should improve its brightness testing for ... moreThe specified 470nits is based on the brightness bar to the max.

If you put it to Auto Brightness, the display would reach uo to 700nits at its brightest possible. That is how all the AMOLEDs work in the Galaxy range right from S4 to S5 and Note 2 to Note 4.

Everyone, including Gsmarena seems to keep on forgetting the one main differentiating factor of the latest Samsung flagships that utilize the full potential of that QHD Super Amoled displays for the human eye and for the human enjoyment. The one really amazing futuristic feature that many still haven't realized has already become a reality. It's the virtual reality feature with the Oculus powered Gear VR! Honestly, that alone would make me buy one of these, and all the other great features mentioned in this review that come with it are the bonuses.

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2015Yes, but the most recent rumor stated it'll be used for the... moreIt is all rumors so it is possible. I doubt it, but obviously I could be entirely wrong. It could also be that maybe they will custom ARM cores in the Note 5, and in fact for 2016 have their own completely custom cores.

So they produce their own arm cpu's with their superior wafers, make their own camera sensors which is easily going to be used in the future on their devices, their own image processor, their own lens, their own ram and memory, their own modem, the displays, and so forth.

Soon will be making their own gpu and cores as well.
And I really hope with their Isocell they use larger pixels on a larger sensor. Low noise pixels that are larger and less crammed.

We shall see. Let's hope for greatness.

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2015Yeah, that Samsung mongoose core rumors for the Note 5 peak... moreMost reports say their full on custom cores won't be ready for testing "or production" til 2016.
Reports are also scattered with saying they are making their own custom core as in license arm blueprints and modify. While some say as I'm completely designing their own...which I doubt, but would be awesome.

However we should at least see a stronger Exynos in the Note 5 possibly with a higher clocked mp10 Mali. Or maybe even the T880.
