LG G4 vs. Samsung Galaxy S6: Next door rivals

19 June 2015
Sometimes the biggest rivalries are between neighbors. The newest additions to clan LG and clan Samsung are from two different worlds – the organic LG G4 and the industrial Galaxy S6. One is curved with soft leather, the other is a cool glass and...

Especially dynamic range and exposure. And above the microphone. The S6's microphone recording has just ran circles around the G4 and many others in most tests

the only things the g4 has over the s6 are the removable battery and expandable storage. for everything else, the s6 trumps it, perhaps not easily, but definitely.

and i'm not even an s6 fan.

I'm not really a fan of Samsung but no doubt Samsung makes excellent hardware, it's just their software that create some problem. Between this two promising phones, i'd still go for the Galaxy S6 (www.samsung.com/sg/galaxy/galaxys6/galaxy-s6/) though I think Sony Xperia Z3+ (www.sonymobile.com/) can also join this rivalries.

Depends if I have enough money saved by August. I've read a heard a lot more good things being said about the G4 than bad things. The last phone I had which took decent pics was the Nokia Lumia 900, and that had an 8mp camera, but it still took awesome pics, so I'm really looking forward to the G4.

I've never had a smart phone that has done that before. I don't think I've ever read so much rubbish from an obvious fanboy. Reading your comment makes me certain you have never owned the phone at all. No go crawl back in your hole.

I have the 85mm f1.8 lens, just a splendid lens with amazing bokeh and the 15-85mm for general purpose. Likewise, I can't afford the G4 at the moment (buying cash), have to wait until end of the year. I have been having a go with my colleagues G4 with the brown leather back, the one I want, and have to say it's not as thick as some suggest, and I have no problem with the build quality (being a previous owner of Z1 and Lumia phones). The out of focus issue reported by some might have been due to continues auto focus, I noted a bit of focus hunting when you not keeping the phone stable, will have to play around a bit more with the auto/manual focus settings as well as subject tracking.

There's an article on Android Central where Phil Nickinson explains why he would rather have a G4 than an S6. And there's a YouTube video which gives 12 reasons why the G4 is better than the S6 Edge - I couldn't find a video stating why the G4 is better than the S6, but the S6 is very similar to the S6 Edge. Of course, there is also a YouTube video which gives 12 reasons why the S6 Edge is better than the G4, but I'm not a fan of Samsung, I can't stand Samsung, and I'm not an LG fanboy either. I would just like companies like Nokia and LG to be at the top of the mobile market.

The plus points far outweigh the negatives...I still question taking landscape photos with a fixed aperture wide open lens like we see on modern day smartphones, where f8-f22 is your preferred range for outdoor scenes, another plus of the SLR lens is the variable aperture. Anyway, it's tough to squeeze everything you can possibly want into a small package.
