Sony Xperia Z5 Premium screen test: A (really) close look

21 November, 2015
We just got our hands on a retail unit of the Xperia Z5 Premium, but before we started our review routine, we spent some time marveling its 4K screen. Marveling quickly turned into examining and before you know it, we set out on a mission to find out whether we would readily spot the difference to other 5.5-inch smartphones with lower resolution.

Anonymous, 25 Nov 2015I remember the days when people are crying over 1080p displ... moreYeah ok, 4k is indeed the future. But have you guys asked yourselves why?
It's not because there is a benefit in sharpness, it's not because you'll be able to tell the difference either, it's because companies are running out of stuff to add.
You can't tell the difference between a 5 inch 1080p display and a 5 inch 4k one with naked eye, simple!
Put aside that the 4k screen will drain the small batteries in smartphones before you say "i have a 4k screen and you don't"
You people should start realise that big numbers doesn't always qualify something better, than something with less numbers. Plus they are just phones!
If you want to brag about something, have a hobby.

PS. I'm planning to get a regular Z5 and I dislike apple and samsung, I'm not a fanboy.

AnonD-380139, 26 Nov 2015For all SAMSUNG Amoled screen users i will say them kindly ... moreI looked at the display mate reviews of the note 5 and the iphone6, and the note 5 has more accurate whites. Needless to say, in terms of contrast, viewing angles, blacks, efficiency, overall colour accuracy, and pretty much every other possible measurement the note 5 is still on top.

vrvly, 23 Nov 2015Only thing better than 4k display in this is 4k recording, ... moreHaha, the memory card is the bigger problem for Samsung.

For all SAMSUNG Amoled screen users i will say them kindly open any WHITE colored page on your beloved Amoled screens and compare the WHITE color with any IPS LCD screen out there and you will find out that the white color will display as a yellowish like a PEE colored white on the Amoled screen. That time you all SAMSUNG Amoled users should realise if your beloved Amoled screens of uncle Sammy is giving you clear true natural colors ;-)

The issue you talked about was prevalent with Tier 1 AMOLEDS such as those used in Samsung Galaxy S , Galaxy S Advance , Galaxy R etc.

They are two different things. learn how to construct an argument mate, and inform yourself. oled is the way to go in terms of contrast, colour, viewing angles. even apple wants a bite of that cake, and apparently will source oled panels from samsung from 2018. Go check an oled tv vs ips.

This is not an issue with a phone/phablet with rather limited expected lifetime, and a relatively low numbers of hours on per day, compared to a TV (or a computer monitor).

But actually you CAN get OLED TV's but they are not that common.
