Sharp Aquos S2 hands-on review

23 December 2017
It's not often we have a Sharp device with us for review. Primarily sold in East Asian markets, these devices are hard to come by elsewhere. So, when Sharp contacted us to review their mostly new AQUOS S2, we couldn't really say no.

This hands-on review convinced me not buy this phone even with verdict of mostly good things about the phone, negatives really do stick out in a weird way questions practicality of using the phone. We will see the next lineup of sharp phones since the sharp ones quite durable products.

I love Sharp phones, and over the years they've been making some of the most amazing phones on the market.. except they weren't really available on the said market outside of Japan.

What boggles me is that the recent Sharp phones are nowhere close their past glory, and THAT is the moment they decide to leave Japan? It's like things are upside down there.

Anonymous, 23 Dec 2017It has big enough bottom basel to fit that front camera there Agree... Being a current Aquos Crystal and Crystal X user since 3 years ago, I didn't find anything wrong with having the front camera at the bottom...

They put it in the middle and the top with the weird 45 degree cutout at the screen makes it looked like an unfinished quickly produced product...
Waited 3 years to change my ageing phones which caused me to be stuck at Android KitKat, but this Aquos S2 was slightly a disappointment... It's RAM and ROM upgrades were excellent though...

Now that Sharp will always be the first to have introduced bezel less phones, they are able to plainly copy the front of Essential Phone and back of iPhone X. Because if you say Sharp copied something, everybody will say "they already had bezel less in 2014".

Nice review guys. However you could be a little more positive. What you call "plasticky" back is actually AMBER on my device. The metal frame is designed to resist shocks so a drop test might turn out well (or just better than some overhyped devices like Note 4x which falls in pieces first time being dropped) . 630 is an essential upgrade from 625 with ddr4 and a capable ISP and the 653 version has Kryo cores so you can expect a 820 like ... just sayin' Sharp claims OIS as well... let us figure it out. Below the line the S2 is a flagship for the middle market with features you get for as much as double or triple the price... What one could complain about is the usual stuff: no FM and no B20. http://www.sharpmobile.com.tw/products/s2/

This phone is a bad Chinese joke, look at those diagonal cuts at the screen corners. The real Japanese Sharp would have never done this silly thing.

Mr. P writes that he hates the notch and missed the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Wise words. Hope you don't change your approach when talking about the iPhone X....
