Samsung Galaxy A54 long-term review

I purchased an A54 1 month ago and have been frustrated with its operation but the main beef is in regard to the battery. Mine is overheating to the point where it is too hot to hold. I took it back to Optus where I purchased it and was informed that it would have to be sent off for 2 weeks under warranty. No phone for 2 weeks and was informed by Optus to buy a cheap phone to get over this period. Unbelievable.

What are you talking about¿ I have the A54 for almost a year now. And while the first few weeks there definitely were lags or almost freezes, it completely went away after 1 or 2 software updates. It's now buttery smooth. I see no difference in performance/smoothness between the A54 and the A34 (that I also have) or the A52 or the A72 (that I had before them).

I have been using this phone from past 8 months, that definitely count as long term and I don't agree with the GSM arena's review here, because in day to day life I see zero lag or choppiness, that too I have battery saver 95% of the time. If I turn off battery saver then usinf 120 Hz display, there is no lag or whatever. Any phone lesser than 30K price in today's market will see that lagginess and choppiness, but not this one.

How does it perform with OneUi 6.0? Also too attribute the choppiness to the SoC is plain wrong. Any SoC from the past years is powerful enough to perform Ui animations, it's just OneUi on mid range and lower end just sucks and lacks optimisation, care :/

KondriX, 05 Dec 20236-9 months is now considered long-term? Really? The GSMA team should take a tour in the third world countries and take a look at how most people in those countries are using ancient low ends, and not replacing them "until they break" lol

Also the responsiveness and app opening speed are mediocre, it cannot beat the Dimensity 1080 in the A34 and that's bad.

Elm, 25 Dec 20231380 also scores 2700-2800 in GB5. It's the only proce... moreI don't know about others. But i get pretty solid performance on my a54. I have the a54e/ds variant (8/256). i play codm in medium graphics at 60 fps and have not noticed any lag. the battery drain is about 1% every 4 mins. I know that pubgm doesn't support 60 fps in a54. but if u use gfxtool you can play at hdr 60 fps. the temp then rises to 39-40 degree Celsius which is not that bad and if u play smooth 60 fps then temp stays at 35 degree celsius. in codm the temp is about 35 degrees (highest 36 degrees). pubgm developers should have optimized this chipset. i agree that exynos 1380 is not best for gaming in this budget. But from my experience i can say its pretty good

Because pretty much every other Android SOC got a nice boost in multicore score going from Geekbench 5 to Geekbench 6. Not A54. Maybe Exynos 1380 doesn't support something that everyone else does but it's still bad for Samsung.

With a better chipset like ludicrously expensive 7+Gen 2 it would cost $100 more and noone would buy it. Dimensity 7200 perhaps (and Eynos for the A34)?

And the Tab S9 fe is being praised as a midrange tablet. ? When you could rather get an iPad. No comparison processor-wise

                              It's basically the same (2888 vs 2870)

the geekbench score is now in 2870-2890s for exynos 1380 which is more than sd 778g o sd 778g+. the battery life is better than any phone in the price range after using the phone for first 2 weeks. the ui is adaptive and learns the usage. i can easily finish a day with moderate usage and have 60% left. after light usage i have 70%+ left. after heavy usage i have about 35-45% left.

Anonymous, 02 Dec 2023You act as the Eynos 1380 didn't it's not AS efficient.

That's even more embarassing when you realise that the E1380 is made with a smaller manufacturing process (5nm for the E1380 vs 6nm for the SD778G), so it should've automatically be more efficient, but it isn't.

fbozkurt, 12 Dec 2023I'm using this phone for over 2 months now. My previou... morewell my a54 is definitely faster than all a and m series phone came before it. i can see it in real life and also the geekbench score is higher than those phones. after one ui 6 i tested it and geekbench score is 2870. before the update it was 2888. But its basically the same. i compared my a54's screen to a52 side by side and i can confirm that a54 is just brighter and more elegant to look at.

The A54 is the choppiest, laggy device? That's highly debatable. I've had the A54 for a while now and I find the performance in this phone very smooth and acceptable enough. It does deal with some stutters especially with intense multitasking but not what I would call "choppy". I had the A53 for a bit and it also was nowhere near as bad as they made it out to be.
