Xiaomi 14 Ultra review

Zuzuz, 27 Mar 2024What it matters is the result, not the size. The Z60 ultra probably has the best result of any ultrawide on the market. In lowlight in particular it's way ahead of all this year's other flagships. They use the same sensor on the ultrawide as Xiaomi is using for the main sensor on the Xiaomi Civi 4 pro. It's really strong. Having said that for me zoom is far more useful than the ultrawide

Bet that Xiaomi dont even have an accounting department to show the CEO the futility of spending millions each year on R&D. Why strive for more choices for consumers in the market when we already have Samsung Ultra and Iphone Pro Max phones?

Zuzuz, 27 Mar 2024What it matters is the result, not the size. It matters... the size of a bigger sensor in X14U would provide better results to a much better results.

Vivo X100 Pro one cam short of X14U or Oppo and still didn't put bigger sensor, the space wasn't a problem.

Or maybe they left it for X100 Ultra.

Time is for a bigger and better UW cam in a premium flagships.

It makes the device feels cheap in almost every way when you interact with it. If the device IS cheap then no biggie, as I said. But if it's EUR1499 then it's a problem.

yalim, 27 Mar 2024i don't like huge camera islands. they make the phone ... moreBut you know that it is because of the sensor size, focus length, and brightness of the lens, right? You cannot have a big sensor, a bright zoom lens in a very compact lens. So you can have either the best possible camera spec on the market (vivo, xiaomi, oppo) but in a bulky smartphone, or a slim smartphone with some compromises in the camera department. Good that we have a choice, so you can choose whatever you like more.

The review of the authentic mode could not be more concise. Apart from the vignetting (which I'm not crazy about either, everything must be said) it should also be mentioned that it has a less aggressive HDR and a more natural processing in some aspects. For example, fine details like grass look very different, clearly better in authentic mode. I don't know which mode I would prefer by default without further testing.

Not buying any phone anymore until much better UW cams, pathetic sensor size for premium flagship.

From this point, no premium flagship should have lesser sensor than that of ZTE nubia Z60 Ultra or Oppo Find X6 Pro (which is also wider than Z60 Ultra).

i don't like huge camera islands. they make the phone so bulky. xiaomi, oppo, vivo they all copy the same bulky design. samsung and nokia used such camera islands back in galaxy s4 zoom and 1020. both of them discontinued.

People who buy FF/APS-C camera and only shoot using A mode should not be looking at this phone.

Someone who only point and shoot, view photos on phone and post on social media has many choices of smartphone to select. As long as one realizes that there is no one single "perfect phone" that can meet all occasions and photographic scenarios, everyone will be happy by picking one that meets one's budget and accepts any compromised shortcomings.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is more than competent shooting in auto mode with default setting that competes well with other smartphones. But the value of this phone is its versatilities and features centric to photography and videography using capable camera optics and sensors. Advance feature like custom camera preset is not provided in many cameras but can be found in this phone.

Some argue that if one wants such camera features, one might as well get a real camera and lens. Anyone who venture into photography by building a capable system will soon realize how much a camera with versatile features and decent lens of different focal length cost.

If one already has such a system and carries it around all the time for taking photo, there is no reason to look at this phone for photography purpose. If one fancies learning photography and wants to build the skills with a capable photography tool while having a very good phone - the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is a great device for that purpose.

Sucks to be you, because DCS is plain wrong here lol. I gave you a thorough explanation of calculating the actual/equivalent focal lengths of a lens. Nothing you say remotely refutes what I say.
It's a super simple, widely known equation - Your loss that you chose to believe someone who is trying to shove bullcrap down your throat.

If in manual mode it is saying 54mm, than it is 54mm lens. On automatic mode Xiaomi is croping to get 65mm. A 65mm native lens will always be 65mm in both native and manual mode.
