just bought dis phone yesterday. what can I say, the camera is really amazing for the camera phone. I was using all the xenon flash camera phone before,(SE,nokia etc) but this phone totally kick them out in term of camera and flash performance. trust me, bcoz it's in my hand RIGHT NOW! I did'nt like samsung mobile very much...(somewhat crappy features) but this camera phone really can replace ur digicam. U wont bring ur digital camera 24 hours with u rite? so who don't afford to buy this fone, just shut ur mouth. and stay to use your k800, c905, n82 or whatever.. I'am enjoying my pixon 12 and my 5800xm now.. bla bla bla......

Kodakmaster, 28 Jun 2009There is a huge difference between a 5mp and a 12mp in prop... moreAre you on something?
I have both an N95, Lg Viewty and Sony c902 - all 5mp phones.
The picture quality of the LG is vastly better than the other two.
We tried a simple test the other week. My dog was laid in the bay window with a bright sun behind him.
on the N95 and the Sony the picture was cmpletely washed out. the dog was little more than a black shape, as was the inside of the room and the window frame all but drowned out by the white outside.
The Lg gave a very useful picture, the dog and room were clear, although theoutside was obviously overexposed it was still discernable.
I have just recieved my Pixon12 and the camera is another major step up. The lens is a bit wide angle for me but the 12MP gives me the ability to zoom right in on objects on the pc without the blockiness that happens on the others.
the colour balance is great, and the time to shoot very quick.
As for getting a normal camera- I carry my phone everywhere, how often do you have your 'normal' camera with you?

"You can change the icons in the Pixon and some other sub menus have slightly different options, but trust me; I have a Jet and the camera is awful! Pixon12 all the way."

Professional reviews of the Samsung Jet all say the camera is great and the PQ is good. I doubt you have even held a Jet.

      Good try though.

What is with the weird menu? Message and phonebook icon tiny and right at the bottom, music player, internet and video player in a very illogical layout...that's one thing I don't like at all.

Camera-wise it's really sooo frustrating to get all those bells-and-whistles,
but no improvement in photographic quality.
          I have a 4 ( four! ) year old S-E K800i w just 3 Mpix, that easily matches this
          INSANE 12 Mpix Samsung.
I have pictures of *that flower* ( 'Bluebells' ? ) taken with the K800i that would just blow this 12 Mpix camphone away !
          You write:
"...no major defects visible anywhere (except perhaps the unusually increased noise in the darker parts of the sky).. "
          That's just the problem!
YOU JUST CAN N-O-T INCREASE PIXELS WITHOUT MATCHING THE SENSOR SIZE !!!
You'll just end up with more noise (and cumbersome file-sizes) if the sensor size remains the same. And if you put a larger sensor, you need a larger lens (which will extend longer), and you end up with a beast that's as big as a camera.
I'm happy I gave up the quest for a good-picture phone: it just won't happen.
Better get a real cam, and save your hard-earned money (well, some of us earn them the hard way ... ) and BUY A CHEAPER PHONE.

What is it with you testers? How can you go on ranting about "the gap to compact cameras is closing" over and over? It's like you take an old compact camera and say: "He-he, check this out NOW!" And put the latest multi-Mega-Pixl camphone up against it: did it ever occur to you that cameras are evolving too?
The latest approaches among real cameras include sensor sizes and lenses that no phone can't even compare to!
Get real! Get critical! How can you phrase even one nice comments about the image quality from the Pixon 12 !?
I'm not calling you biased ( but you can have my buck anyway, just you start telling it straight! ) - but PLEASE , don't sweet-talk crappy image-quality any more.

          Thanks for your time reading.

If my phone didn't have a camera it wouldn't bother me. Why? Because I have a good 7mp Sony Cybershot digital camera.
The thing is, phones can have brilliant camera's but unless you're gonna attach a big lens and increase the size and weight of your phone to that of a digital camera... You'll never get the full quality of a digital camera. You can come close though... But if you REALLY like taking photos that much... Buy a digital Camera. Or a film camera. It makes sense. All in ones never match up to dedicated devices.

And size doesn't matter. 12 mp? Who cares. Its just going to take up more memory card space. 5 or 8 is more than enough with the correct hardware/software combo.

You shouldn't open your mouth if you have no clue what u are saying.

I'm not going to go into the debate of megapixels. Even tho it's a fact that to most people 5mp would be enough for everything, but sadly people are not so educated and they go for the marketing hype.

And you are partly right about cameraphones replacing digicams. Yes that will most likely happen eventually. Once decent phone with good camera (enough megapixels, optical zoom etc.) and under 300€ price tag is a reality. But Pixon12 is going to be more than double the price and it's still lacking in some camera features (i'm not saying it's not good cameraphone, tho). Until then most people will buy the cheap 100€ digicam and 100-200€ phone and save a lot of money.

People like u and me are not the majority since we write to this site or even read it. Most people don't give rats ass..they go to store, look the phones and their specs and most importantly the price. And if the seller says it's a good phone they will most likely buy it and be relatively happy with it.

The main thing that is missing from cameraphones is Optical Zoom and Manufacturers need to start adding this because on cameraphones you cannot zoom in without the picture looking crap because digital zoom is no good and ruins the picture especially if you zoom right in, If phones had Optical Zoom people would be able to zoom in without the picture looking worse.

for example, i had a 5mp camera in my old N95, which was one of the better ones (it's the same camera module as in the N82), however even i can see an increase in the quality of my photos.

and btw, my innov8 is my full time camera.

the problem with mobile phone cameras is that the lens are smaller and so they need to take in more light, thus decreasing the shutter speed which often causes blurriness.

If... moreThere is a huge difference between a 5mp and a 12mp in proper digital system cameras, where the 12mp logo really deserves it's name. That difference is not present in the mobile versions, where people are just caught up in the hype. You know as well as me that casual mobile photo snappers don't need more than 5mp, i wouldn't bring a mobile phone camera to a official gathering or family event even if it had 25mp, then i would use a real camera. But for casual snaps for your mobile gallery and PC a 5mp is enough, and i'm talkning good mp, like in the Nokia N82 and the Motorola ZN5, not like the crap 5mp software they put in LG and SE phones. The camera industry has a reason for developing more mp on cameras, to take better shots, but the mobile industry and their consumers doesn't, cause the difference is minimal in the mobile camera users prefference. I think very few people actually use their mobile cameras on regular basis no matter how many mp. It use to be hype when 3.2 mp came out on phones and everybody started using their phones for alot of snaps, than the hype died out and now people don't "actually" care that much about the cameras in their phones, much less use it no matter how many mp. But it's still a software front where mobile brands can compete and it's a hot topic for consumers, but in reality when push come to shove, people today take less and less photos and couldn't care less about the mp on their phones, except just to brag, hence why the phones with bad cameras are very popular, like the iPhone and E73.
