Samsung I9000 Galaxy S vs. Apple iPhone 4: Collision course

06 August 2010
It’s not like you’re out of options. Here’s one. Another one would be to get a friend’s iPhone 4 and another friend’s Galaxy S, put them on a table, close your eyes and… tell your friends to bugger off. Or you can do it the old-fashioned way. Flip a what...

actually iPhone is much classier than Galaxy S and it lose point because of apple limitations. Without antenna problem iPhone 4 kicks Galaxy S in the S on every area. All other OS's looks like iOS copy and i hate that crappy TouchWiz interface.

GSMARENA please do not handle iPhone without AppStore because all you wanna do with your phone is in there.

            Iphone= Apps < Android= Programs! ;P

Haven't found limitations on my galaxy yet, installed 100mb apks and some with loose sd files on it without a sweat.

oh please.. gsmarena didn't even post ui comparison 'cause it's so obvious samsung got their ui from apple. seriously, even the camera and music player is the EXACT copy from iphone with extremely slight changes. and god! the menu is such a clone of iphone! the way it has 4 icons on the bottom and scrollable on top of it. even the design is a copy of 3gs in a stupid way. it's actually kinda disgusting. like a china phone.

Many complain about a bad gps reception of the galaxy S, but i've got plenty of luck with the standard maps navigation and sygic maps 10. A "fix" after several seconds, eventhough he could be 40M off ..

                    Come on!
Samsung applications are not good at all.
We all know that GSM Arena is pro Samsung since a long time.
Since their tests proclaim that Samsung phones have good audio quality mp3 players. Simply not true.

                      "To all Apple fans":

Don't make a mistake that your master(S.Jobs)done earlier!
Do you remember the pre-launch PR of iPhone 4 that Jobs was hardly try to indirectly say(overall)Android phones are worthless specially those that one of the Korean companies that it's name starts with "S"(oh man!can you guess?keep it up!)and to be exact don't buy those with Super AMOLED(s)?!!do you?
not to mention he made ultra super smartphone from iPhone 4(that is far better than Samy's)and look what happened today;any article on earth about iPhone 4 contains receptions issues and lacks that these days you only see in under 70$ handsets(iTunes and no Card Slot are good examples).
These flaws, lacks or what ever was big enough to push Jobs to it's limits and one who 2 or 3 days earlier denied the truth and again and again finally admitted it but with conditions!!Nokia,Motorola,Samsung,LG,SonyEricsson and if there was another big company in handset market it would be 6th victim of Apple's fault.
                      So...the lesson?
Whats done is done and there is nothing can do about it admit it and don't make few more S.Jobs(it's only one now and what was going to happen if jobs was twin?!!).
iPhone 4 is good device(great actually)but when someone claiming the best of the market it's a different story at least it must work the way that it should be.

                      ...Cheers from Germany.

Thanx Gsmarena for comparing Galaxy S with iPhone 4. Only Samsung is capable of making ground breaking phones like Galaxy S. Galaxy S is the best phone in the market. Apple is out of the market. Samsung Rockzzz as always.

I am fortunate enough to have both the iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S - one for work and one for other private business - and must say that there is so much to love about both...and a few things to loathe. I love the Galaxy S with the amazing high contrast Super AMOLED screen and the extra screen real estate: the quality of videos it plays is amazing, especially with CSI clips: colour saturation is jaw dropping. But the iPhone's retina display, whilst smaller and ultimately lacking the contrast of the Samsung, provides a level of clarity which is stunning in itself. If I am sitting down and can get up close, the iPhone is preferred. But if I am up and about and moving, the extra half inch of the Samsung is much appreciated and the extra resolution of the iPhone is not so needed.

Both Phones are very fast with most tasks but I do find that on occasion, the Samsung does lag: there is some bloatware on it that is tough to kill and you have to be aware it can stall a little. The iPhone is seamless here.

Android gives me a level of control I crave and that does not really exist on the unbroken iPhone, but when it comes to the apps, the reality at the moment is not just quantity, but quality. Many apps for the iPhone are poor in execution and concept, but for the Galaxy there is a huge dearth of quality apps. For me, Bloomberg native app is key: it is brilliant on iPhone, but non-existent on Android. The apps for the iPhone are currently a class above the Galaxy’s Android environment. I have no doubt the situation may change, but it will be many months yet.

Call quality? Both very similar. Good on both, but there are better phones for making calls out there: but I would have to give the edge to the Samsung here for slightly better reception in at least one marginal area, though its generally a non-issue. Btw, both my phones have a soft silicon case, so death grip is not a problem. Speaker phones for both are a little quiet with some ringtones, and overall the Galaxy is louder, but using the right ringtones can make the iPhone adequately loud in most cases.

Battery life is better for the Galaxy S by a small margin in my experience...but it is highly variable. If I am browsing sites that use a lot of black, the Galaxy S wins, but with white background, it seems the iPhone edges up closer. The user replaceable battery of the Galaxy S is much appreciated here! But the battery-cases for the iPhone 4 are only a few weeks away, so that battery issues will be marginal between the two.

I am a great fan of both phones. All in all, the iPhone provides a better experience for average users who don’t want to be too challenged with complex technical changes, but the Galaxy S provides a slightly better telephony experience and more suer control. It’s your choice...but if you can, get both: you won’t regret it.
