Nokia Lumia 620 preview: First look

21 December 2012
The Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 give Nokia all the presence they need in the higher WP8 circles, but a smart maneuver has helped HTC emerge as a serious threat in the lower midrange. The Finns, who are obviously having none of that, responded swiftly to the Windows Phone 8S...

AnonD-70032, 26 Dec 2012I won't think of it that way. I'd think of all of the phone... moreUmm i see, screen size and design play a big role for nokia/htc then..

Apple is trying to sell their hardware based on limiting basic features on their devices and bind all together ..like ipad no gsm call : so ppl will buy iphone, mac works well with itunes etc..

Samsung is trying to sell by including all features possible and cramp all into a single device..

        More choice for customers :)

For example, I wouldn't pick the 920, not because I don't have the money, not because I don't like its features, but perhaps because it's just the wrong size for me.

My right size is 4.0". Others might be different. I like that Nokia is coming up with phones of all sizes, unlike Apple.

Samsung does it too... but not in a way that makes sense to me.

I don't know... the plastic case, and the bright colors... get to me, and not in a good way. I just compared this to the HTC Droid DNA and the DNA is more solid. But, I need something on AT&T's 4GLTE. I am in the U.S. (New York) and need speed, most of all, for sending large graphics files.

I do not understand nokia or htc.. Both companies do the same thing..

                    Flagship phone: no sd card

Budget phone: sd card / no local storage

All their phones must have at least one major flaw each.

                      So now you've got the 3.8" Lumia 620, 4.3" Lumia 820, and 4.5" Lumia 920.

I'll be anticipating the 4.0" Lumia 720, hopefully it won't disappoint!

AnonD-83178, 26 Dec 2012Again everyone forgets that the $250 price is excluding tax... moreIn some countries (at least in my country) real price of Nokia models including Taxes and 'everything' is even less than announced price. Nokia said it's a affordable handset.. so it's more than possible- it will cost around $250.
Yes, it's true 512mb ram will not cover all features of win8, but according to nokia product marketing team it will cover almost 99% of wp8's features/apps.
                        http://mynokiablog.com/2012/12/10/your-lumia-620-questions-answered/
people who can afford this phone are not looking for all the wp8 features, are they? As i said before, it's a affordable set, so if you own it you will certainly have to miss handful features( just like when you buy a mid ranged android, you miss some top class android features), won't you? & those are not even the top features of win8.
& gsmarena already confirmed it's browsing experience is excellent... far more excellent then HTC 8S. Some people just can't deal with the fact this set will throw a real competition to android in midranged smartphone market i see..

Based on experience, Im sticking with WP Lumia 800) for my phone while Android's (Nexus 7) for my tablet. The iPad is being used by my kid. And since I dont plan on running memory intensive apps on my phone, the 620 is the right phone for me.

Because of Android's "true" multitasking, RAM gets to be a problem, thus experience lags. 512MB is the minimum requirement for WP8 to run on a WVGA phone, which the 620 is. I own a Lumia 800 (512mb RAM) and have downloaded many apps already and have not experienced any problems. WP OS is very efficient.I also have a Nexus 7 and I use it for more memory extensive apps and media consumption. Based on my experience, I will continue using WP for everyday duties (e.g. calls, sms, emails, social) while gaming and media usage will be in my Android.

Anonymous, 26 Dec 2012Android is buggy as hell. It still lags. There are couple a... moreAll my Android phones has been perfectly stable, except the HTC i had, but thats not news, HTCs are defective by design, at best. 2 and a half month on Note 2 and not a single OS crash, hang or freeze. And then check some WP forums for Lumia 920 freeze, say no more.

I understand why some people like WP8, and spreading lies about Android is pretty much in line with Microsofts advertising, attack the competition when you dont have a product that can speak for itself. Its gonna backfire, you know very well that WP8 has stability issues, and some reviewers even went so far as to recommend Android if you want a more stable OS.

Im gonna get a 920, maybe, if the stability issues are fixed with PR1.1, and if the camera can produce clear images in daylight.

Less in Hong Kong and other places with no import tax or VAT, but still the Lumia 620 will not ship itself to Hong Kong and magically sell itself at a NET PRICE, not gonna happen. As you said, the specs, isnt that a HINT that its not gonna cost $250?

Btw, as HTC 8S users are already reporting, terrible browsing performance, its ok on paper but in real life its far from ok. And in real life people will also have more apps running on the phone, making the 512MB RAM an ever bigger limitation. MS says pretty clearly that you need 1GB RAM for a full feature WP8 experience, and soon even 1GB will be a limitation unless people will run them clean without any apps at all, WP8 is obviously more RAM hungry than Android, if judging by the HTC 8S at least.

Nothing to see her, get a Lumia 820 or better, 1GB RAM is required for full feature, thats according to Microsoft and not me. The wp store also specifies that not all apps will run with less than 1GB RAM.
