AnonD-143081, 12 Nov 2017What about now that is 450 and has been updating some staff... moreI got mine today and did the update. Phone works pretty well. There is only camera lag when I turn on HDR. Phone is pretty snappy and looks great. I love that I can get flagship specs for $500.

You heat (only) the perimeter of the front face to ~85C to loosen the glue while a suction cup is attached to remove the front face. From there, the damage iFixIt led you to believe (when they FROZE THE LCD in attempts to peel up the display and snapped it) is unavoidable is easily avoided. As iFixIt mentions, they use stretch release adhesive on the internals for easier repair even. This has been stated online by the company itself. Freezing a device and cracking it open isn't a legitimate vector of safe repair to start with, sorry to say.

Yeah I would say it is pretty worth it now if you are looking for an aesthetically pleasing phone with top-tier build quality and stock Android. Otherwise just spend a little bit more for a Oneplus 5/5t when it comes out or an LG G6. Both of those phones can offer more within the same price bracket. This is Essential's first phone so it should be expected that it wouldn't do very well. Just wait til next year if you are interested in Essential's products.

The Essential's battery is not replaceable by ANY method, including the company's repair department. This means that for most people this phone will become a very expensive paperweight after 2 years or so.
