While I think the s8 is def better, I think the more simplistic stock android is better for me. They have released a few updates, the monthly patches are on time so they are making the phone better every month.
I think they need help with the camera still because the pixel camera app is still a bit better. Overall, the galaxy did not destroy the essential, esp with the pixel camera app loaded. The biggest thing, is the display. No one has a samsung display, but this still is a very good display, better than lg. he other thing I will miss is samsung pay. I think I will def miss that feature.
For 499, this is a steal. If we don't support the little guy then apple and samsung will continue to raise prices. We need competition, and I think essential has a chance. The american oneplus.....Oneplus is great!

There are cases for the essential. You can go to amazon and they have tudia and incipio cases. They aren't great but they do exist. Also, call the company and see what they can do to help you. I had an s8 and without ins it was 350 to replace the display at a local repair shop. I wound up using upsie for insurance. 57 for 2tear and 75 deductible

Purchased the Essential ph-1 for the new low price of $499 at that price the Essential became a true winner in the smartphones Arena with the new updates this phone is a champion of flagships- first and foremost it works an all networks that alone kills the competition the size equals and A grade 128 gb ram A grade price A grade the build Another A grade Camera a B grade and will get a A grade with future upgrades Essential mistake was the price out of the box at least they rectified that now!!! Phone gets a 9 out of 10 plus the haters out their were unbelievably hard on this company-

Just so you know, the screen is not repairable or replaceable if it is broken... ifixit.com gave it the worst repair rating ever... but not until after I got mine :(
Essential.com let me know after my phone fell out of my bag at a height of 3 feet that the glass cannot be replaced. Nice big fan of cracks and a chunk out of the bottom of the screen- I don't buy insurance because I usually just pay for any repairs out of pocket - it's cheaper - and honestly, I've never broken a phone before... when I got my PH-1, there were no cases made for this phone because of the edge to edge screen...they did sell "holsters" that it would fit in but who wants one of those - so think twice about whether you want to spend money on a phone that can't be fixed...

In terms of quality, the camera's tone, sharpness, and focus are just subpar compared to this year's competition. People say that if you want to improve the PH-1's camera, you have to install a Pixel Camera app. Doesn't mean the PH-1 is a bad phone or anything. It was bad before but after the price drop, it has become a reasonable phone to buy at 500 USD (As long as you can ignore the camera quality). If you are looking for a phone with a good camera for 500 USD or less, you gotta look at One Plus 5 or LG G6.
