That's a great phone. The price and the performance do not usually come along together, but here. Smoothly in playing game and working with office apps. Sound is good. Waiting for the next version of this phone.

      this phone is great except for the fact that the touch screen can glitch out, which is annoying. all you have to do is turn the screen off and then turn it back on, which gets rid of the issue

        After struggling with a PH1 for a year it's still just a clumsy cell phone. Touch screen is iffy. Shuts off in the middle of streaming audio. Complains incessantly about not being connected to an information broker.

        Granted the handheld interface is clumsy because space is limited and there is only a limited vocabulary of motions. *But* the PH-1 layers on a crop of its own foibles to make the experience even less accommodating, It took no less that 15 "taps" to actually get the settings to appear, for example. Found myself going back to the iPod and am about ready to go back to the iPhone.

        BTW, the PH-1 was billed as a break from bloatware and a boon to privacy.

        To the extent that the PH-1 is a bare device and you get to go to the Google store and add only the software you want, the PH-1 is indeed a break from bloatware and mystery applications.

        As for the "boon to privacy," that's a flight of pure fantasy. Google is everywhere on that phone and your only choice is to dustbin the PH-1 or get your privacy ripped to shreds. To their credit Google has never presented itself as other than an information reseller, but what sticks in my craw is how Essential marketed the PH-1 as the solution for privacy wonks like myself.

          in order to get the update check the settings and your sim provider do not block the update as I have confirmed with the Vodafone.

                How to use Google camera, I download the app file and installed but give me error when opening it.

                  just buy a weeks ago.. the phone is awesome.. premium quality build.. just got latest update security patch for april very fast like pixel.. gud jobs essential..

                      10 days after they release March update and still nothing. Last month I got it within a day, phone is currently for sale on Kijiji as I've lost patience with its glitches and BS.

                        Just got an Essential Phone and I'm in love, so smooth with great specs. I came from iPhones and the Galaxy series. Good job on this one!

                          The SE still ranks 3rd because I love the design and size. It's my favorite iPhone ever by far.

                          I even considered getting a 6s for $230 to maintain the headphone jack but went nah. I do DoorDash for extra cash and the Dasher app on iOS is inferior to Android's. For me, my favorites are still Essential and G5. I sometimes would put the G5 over it. They're almost like #1 & 1A.

                          I just prefer the Essential a little more because it's my current daily driver and battery life seems nearly twice as long. No overheating issue or image retention like my G5 has. Maybe in time, I would prefer my G5 again because it's easier to fix, wide-angle, microSD card slot, removable battery, and IR blaster.

                          For now, it's the Essential by a nose because of those three reasons I mentioned earlier even though the G5 is more comfortable to hold and type on. The V20 is technically my best all-around phone. It has FM radio and a nicer display that isn't yellowish warm. I just can't stand the size and the design isn't as nice.

                          SE is a great little iPhone. Maybe the best iPhone ever made. But no way I'd rank it over the Father of Android's baby. Too many limitations on iOS. If your Essential Phone does get a little glitchy, just turn it off and then turn it on every two weeks.

                          I've had multiple people at T-Mobile stores ask me what phone I have? Many never seen the phone I ad since it was only carried by Sprint. I've also had Essential Twitter page liked my comments multiple times including Andy Rubin himself.

                          That's why I put Essential on top. I think Andy is innovative and find his extramarital affairs as fake news. I'm forever grateful to Andy Rubin and his three other friends for creating Android for us.

                            But the issues with this phone is getting to me.
                            Which is why I'm going to buy a Sony XZ1 Compact.
                            Small like the SE but Android.
                            I must have gotten the rotten apple in the bunch with my Essential but no way to get a replacement.

I don't get the same signal issues and I'm on T-Mobile. Mine is the halo gray one for $224 on Amazon that they can sell new for $419.

                              Perhaps the reason why I love it more than my SE is I just prefer Android more. The battery life is longer. The camera using the Google one is way better especially in low-light which the SE is terrible at. The fingerprint scanner is also the fastest I ever had.

                              I still do enjoy my iPhone SE but I'm just not an iOS fan. I hate using iTunes to add my songs onto it. Feels so 2005. That's why I stopped adding stuff to it. I'm trying from my Essential Phone now and I don't have the problems you have. Solid phone.

                                Here's three reasons why I rank my Essential Phone over my beloved LG G5 as my favorite -

                                1. Software
                                2. Better build quality/design
                                3. Longer battery life

                                It doesn't have a headphone jack, removable battery, expandable storage, or IR blaster. But those three reasons is why I still rank it as my favorite smartphone ever.

                                  Anonymous, 08 Feb 2019So why did you factory reset your PH-1 but not your Pixel?I do a factory reset for my Pixel XL 2016 phone but it didn't matter the damage was done. The battery is toast. The only way I'd bother to put in a new better you is if I could get a Snapdragon 845 or 855 chipset and replace my current Snapdragon 821chipset too.

                                    Having this phone for long enough now I have to say it sucks.
                                    Its the little things that kill as they say.
                                    Poor cell reception
                                    Notifications are not fully controlled.
                                    Can't change sounds for different apps or allow silent notification. Either on or off.
                                    Lots of bugginess.
                                    Camera sucks but downloading Google camera APK helped.
                                    Poor Bluetooth ability.
                                    Always skipping and cutting out no matter what speaker I used.
                                    Sound quality is awful, if I plug in any kind of headphones and turn off screen to listen in the background the volume drops for that song then next song is loud as hell.
                                    Nice to know I wasted my money thinking I was upgrading from an iPhone SE and actually didn't except for the screen.
