This is definitely the best phone I have owned. However, I am trying to download Snaptu (I am on 02) and I keep getting the information that it is 18+ restricted. Did anyone else have the same and do I have to phone 02 to get the restriction lifted? Many thanks for any help you can give.

Can anyone help me at all?

I changed my internet settings to O2 Pre Pay and the browser works fine, but Opera Mini still won't work, it just keeps telling me to contact my service provider for internet settings. Anyone else had this problem? And did you resolve it?

Just picked this up from Carphone Warehouse. Firstly, as said previously is you are on Virgin, O2 or Orange, you can do a prepay upgrade without having to buy any topup, and of course the handset it unlocked. Being Alcatel, I was a bit dubious, as having worked at CPW myself, i've seen Alcatel over the years and they were nothing to write home about until now. But, I have to say this phone is amazing for the money. Menu's are stylish and buttons are easy to type on. It does "feel" a bit light and cheap compared to a Blackberry, however everything it offers makes up for it. It didn't take long to get everything set up, although the settings that came through from O2 did screw up the browser settings, it put the homepage as the MMS homepage, which needed to be changed, and I kept getting an error when connecting to the browser on facebook, however disabling the SL in the settings cured this. I think the only bad thing I have to say about this phone is the facebook app itself. It's a bit basic and I had trouble leaving comments on facebook. My kids already use an excellent Java app called SNAPTU (just google it) this has various apps built into it like tv guide and weather and so on. Once installed I found this app to be better than the one built in. Email setup was a breeze, no issues, and again as people have said previously, even though it's not Wifi or 3G it does surf real fast for a 2G handset. (I'm on O2, top up £15 per month pay as you go, with unlimited texts and unlimited internet). All in all, a fabulous phone for the price, well recommended if you want a "blackberry" style phone.

after readying that brilliant review on here it help me make my mind up about this phone.
i have to confess i am never happy with phones from dec 2008 to jan 2010 i have had no less then 11 phones all of which i have never really been happy with. and it was a vast aray of phones from nokia's, lg's samsung's and even smartphones like blackberry storm.

put all that aside i was very tempted by the blackberry 8520 but didn't think it was worth £200. so i was waiting for a price drop.

then the alcatel ot 800 was on carphone so i was lookin at that.

after doing some serching and compairing they do all the same thing apart from wi-fi but if i had that i would only use it at home (no point in that) the camaras the same, both have music players both have a good source of app via differant sites (mobile9 getjar, j2me sites as well) ot 800 has a radio not on blackberry. they look very similar but i like the white of the alcatel tho, and also the ot 800 is way way easier to use you don't have silly menus hidding everything. AND IT WAS ONLY £50....

i have had the phone a few days now and can't stop taking it out to play with cus it looks really good.

i have to say i have had 1 or 2 alcatels b4 and there were just cheap second phones not a main one. as BUT NOT THIS ONE it has really suprised me i really can't get over how GOOD it is!!!!!!!

my advise to anyone considering getting this phone is go and play with it in the carphone. (if the have stock i had to go to 4 shops) and don't just pass it off because you think it'll be a cheap copy with cheap features its not.

            BRILL LITTLE PHONE LOVE IT

This is a follow up to my previous review. Considering this phone is not 3G it connects to the internet faster than a phone which does have it. Wonderful, wonderful. BUY IT.

This is the best phone I have ever owned (and I've owned some top of the range). Brilliant colour screen, loud ringtones and very easy to use. Maybe camera not exceptional but for a 2 megapixle still very clear. Looks good and nice size. Absolutely wonderful.

Maria, 08 Jan 2010Can you please tell me how much does the phone costs???, or... moreIn the UK you can purchase it from Carphone Warehouse starting at £44.99 on Virgin up to £59.99 on O2. These prices are subject an initial top up of at least £10 on top of the price of the phone.

Tesco Mobile also do the phone for (i think) £49.99, but it is locked to the Tesco Network, and they only have the tribe colours-black or pink. The white/chrome is only available at carphone warehouse.

Thanks for all the lovely comments!

I've never really reviewed before but I just figured that i'd review from a hands on experience, as I couldnt find a decent review myself when I looked before buying the phone.
I also realised that most people associate Alactel with the £9.99 clam shell (myself included!) and assumed this phone would be a bit rubbish but people need to realise that this phone is actually fab!

Just to update, IM is up and running no problems, and installed tiny twitter. Oh, and battery lasted from Sunday to Thursday-brilliant, especially with all my fiddling!

My other half is so impressed he is hoping to get one this weekend, and he's a bit technology mad!

Thanks for the link to the apps sites, i shall have a look later.

Also, anyone who is having trouble setting up the phone, do contact the help guy who pops up on this thread, he is really helpful!

                                  :)
