By now we already know that this is the best alcatel phone so far (? ever). I just own this phone for few days. It's still a good phone for me & most owner. But for those who still considering to buy this phone there are few drawbacks:
1. poor batery life (with frequent stereo speaker use)- you have to recharge daily up to 3 hours if bat fully discharged
2. BT only for connection with headset & carkit (can't connect for data transfer)
& they support ver 1.1/1.2
3. Generally slow reaction & occasionally hang (compared to my old 735)-it probably needs new firmware OR ? speedier processor
4. no voice dial/command - not really a problem for me
5. some midi ringtone sound a bit low when at the same vol level mp3/m4a ringtone already sound very loud
6. Opening back cover can become a nightmare if you are not careful
Otherwise overall this is still one of the best phone in 1.3mp cam+ FM radio + miniSd +
music player class.

I never come across any samsung i300, so I can't comment on that. But I just discover one downside of the phone, no voice dial, weird since even OT735 has this function. Useful for dialing with BT earpiece. But I seldom use voice dial, because it is quite noisy while driving in a car.

one more question mnazam. what's the sound quality and loudness of the samsung i300 compared to this?

I haven't listened to shoq box yet. But if you mean audio equipments like micro or mini hifi then it is quite high expectation. But for a phone it is indeed one of the best in its class. The bass not so noticable, but treble is clear. Compared to phone like k700 I think s853 is better.
The usb port also function as recharge. I noticed sometime, not everytime, when I plug in the phone to computer via usb port, I can see the battery indicator shows charging status. Usb port located at the bottom, while the handsfree at left side. The supplied charger also plug in to usb port.

Time taken to save high quality photo usually only about 3/4 seconds. the biggest size I've taken is on daytime 149kb.
I haven't tried mp3 files with higher bitrate, only for 128, but I expect the file can play smoothly as the lower bitrate file.

mnazam, i have some questions for you:
1) How much time (in sec.) S853 saves one photo in best quality?
2) What about VBR and high bitrate (above 192 kbps) MP3 files? It plays without any freezes or lags?

who one has bought 853, please compare sound of OT-835 with SE-W550i. Who is better..??? and also the picture on display.

About unlimited duration recording, please go to Photo/Video > Record a video > *Press left softkey* > Duration > High duration.
You have to do this if you need this functions for every recording if not the default is 30 seconds.

regarding the size it is not as big like nokia 6630, feel quite light, but the keypad is located close to each other, but still ok for messaging. T9 is in english and indonesian. It is not so thick as you imagine.
