Some games will be able to operate with the .jar file only. But I would advise you to download both of the files onto the memory card of the phone, dependent on your firmware version you will be able to launch the games straight from the memory card, or if you have an older version you will need to transfer the games to the phones internal memory first! Create a folder called "games" on your memory card, if there is no such folder there already ofcourse! Download your application into that folder and try to play it... simple as that. To play the games go into the "games and application" menu of the phone use the directional button to get to the memory card and the games should be listed in the folder you have created. The .Jad and .Jar file should be merged to one single game file now (if they are read properly)... just launch the game and play till you drop ;)!!

Jericho, take your phone to Globe service center nearest you and tell them you want to activate your gprs/mms. Inform them that your phone is already preloaded with Globe's gprs/mms settings and that it only needs Globe's access. If only you are smart subscriber, you only have to text GPRS ON send to 333 & MMS ON send to 333 and after 24 hours your gprs/mms is activated but globe don't have such command yet. And please tell me the result. Thanks.

Hi all;
I just bought new phone nokia 6288 to replace my s853 due to inability to get new battery in Malaysia. It is still in full working condition but sadly the 14mth old battery can only last 1/2 day with minimal use. I still keep it a back up phone and still hoping to get new battery. So good luck to other user. Bye. Ah I really missed the sound from the superb stereo speaker.

oseph, you can restart or reset your OT S853 by typing ###847#. You may also restart it by turning if off, take out the battery for 20 or 30 minutes then load it again and swith on the phone.
mindoverflow, you must really have purchased a unit firmwared with 164, 169 or 177 and therefore need to upload it with the latest firmware version. Mine is 18b and honestly I really didn't encounter the problem you have encountered. So take to the shop or alcatel authorized service center and have it reloaded with the latest firmware.

Jerico, pressing "change audio mode" will just mute the ringtone currently played. When you finished reading your message and go back to the main screen, the ringtone will continue play and will only stop if you press any key. May I remind you that you have the following options for message the ringtone:
1. Lower the volume of your message ringtone.
2. If you are in a meeting or in a church or anywhere where you need not be disturb by your phone's ringtone (message or not), just press the key below number 9 key and you will be notified by the phone's vibration if you receive a call or message.

Thanks for your reply. I live in algeria, and as far as i know there is no alcatel support service here. I didn't set a long ringtone or such. The first time i noticed these problems was in last september, i noticed that when i'm traveling by car, i find it off 2-3 times durring the distance (it was about 600km) it happened anytime i travelled, but i tought it was due to network detection or something such. untill as i told you these last days it was almost unusable. But unfortunately actually the things went yet worst, it woun't even switch on. when i turn it on, it displays the alcatel logo on the white screen and keeps frozen on that display until the leds goes off, but i can still see the logo shown, wich means it's still on. I looked for a reset button, but i didn't found it, also the reset code doesn't function, as it's concidered not powered on yet. Know i think it requires a flash and hope there is no hardware failure. (i'm sure i changed no setting, no doubt it came by itself). Now, we could really thank alcatel (congratulations). Any one got an idea ??? Thanks you.

So that means.. If I choose a long mp3 message ringtone, it will play the whole song? even I press all buttons?
And, what's that "change audio mode"? i tried to select that but the next messages don't ring anymore

Knight Rider,
Since I was not in Thailand, so I ask my friend to ask for me...
The answer she got is "*#06#", which is the one that shows your IMEI.
Mine shows "35669800057573-4V Java 010 01".
When I asked her to call them back saying that this is not the firmware version (since it must be 3 digit like 169, 188, ..), she said that they said 'Java 010 01' is the firmware version!
So it looks like they may not know it. :-(
Sorry about that.

Mindoverflow: Where do you live? I can find a service center near you!
Jerico: Perhaps you have selected a long mp3 as sms tone... this is a nag in the phone, it will play the entire file! So choose a shorter tone, or edit the mp3 to suit your liking!

mindoverflow, your unit must have firmware below 188 or 18b version and you really have to take it to the shop where you bought it for firmware upgrade. But just try to reset it to factory settings by typing ###847#. This might help solve the problem. But before you do that, you have to make back up of the data you stored in your phone's memory like the directory, diary, to do list, games, images, ringtones, etc. All of them will be deleted but all data stored in your memory card and sim card will remain 100 percent intact.

Jerico, at that very time you received a message and, of course, your ringtone sounds, you can turn off that ringtone by pressing the left soft key or choosing "Options" and press or choose "Change audio mode". When you finish reading the message and go back to the main screen the ringtone may continue playing. If this is the case just press any key and it will stop.

When I receive messages on my phone, the message ringtone doesn't stop even I pressed many buttons. That's too noisy. How can I stop that?

Hi, i own it since 08/06, except some few bugs it was ok, but these last days it's really not handy, it turns off by itself, it's almost unusable except with some luck, i guess the batterry is ok, cuz the problem is present even if the charger is plugged, and as there is no alcatel AS Service nearby me, i can't upgrade. Any one got such a problem ? any hint ? any help ??? Thanks

jerico, please email me at nelson_maus@yahoo.com and I'll help you with games. I've answered you 4 hours ago but it is not posted until now. Maybe it is rejected by the moderator.
Knight Rider, I've been sending request to versatile for the possible key code to reveal the firmware version but I don't receive response. Maybe it's very confidential that only alcatel's manufacturing staff knows. Anyway let's hope we'll have it sooner or later.

Jerico:
I've downloaded more than 300 games and applications from that site and have not encountered any problem with them. Also,
I want to recommend you to visit this S853 fans site where you can also download games for this phone. I would like to thank Knight Rider for this. This is the site ==> http://gportal.hu/gindex.php?pg=10246703. Open or download the zip files to your pc then extract the jad and jar files. Then copy the jar files to your phone via card reader or usb cable. You may include the jad files if you want. E-mail me at nelson_maus@yahoo.com if you have some problem/question about that site.
