The phone is available online for instance at www.protel.de, with a 512 mb SD card thrown in for free. Plus it is the complete package with charger, headphones, remote control with 3.5 jack and PC suite software! And to top it off there is a full 2 year service and warranty deal.

For more info on this phone and Alcatel in general please contact/email me at: un112@msn.com.

cygenius, this phone is good but just buy it if you really like it, just investigate or compare the two phones well. Compare their features, price and everything and after that decide. But any of the two that makes you satisfy according to your comparison.

About the dictionary, let me make it clear that not all words from your inbox are automatically recorded and this must not be your hindrance in choosing this phone. Deleting words in the dictionary everyday does not take two minutes and the dictionary does not eat so much space as they are only words; they're in kilobytes. What eat so much space is the mp3. One song is about 4 mb in average. Some are 6 mb so they really eat so much space but you always have the option no to load so much mp3. This phone supports 1 gb mini sd card. This phone also supports the cheapest mini sd card. (1 gb can be loaded with 200 to 250 songs).I bought my 1 gb mini sd for only Php 780 or USD 16.25. I bought it in CDR King. 1 gb mini sd cards are more expensive in other stores.

Anyway, I have tried not to delete the words in the dictionary for two weeks and texting and calling still works well so the dictionary really don't give problem with txting. The phone itself has more than 8 mb available memory and I don't believe that the dictionary can eat that space, maybe if you don't delete the words for 10 months or 1 year. But I suggest you delete them everyday; it will only consume 1 or 2 minutes of your time.

Let me emphasize that the comments here that this phone sometimes freezes does not happen to my unit so far. Mine have 18b firmware version so I believe that the phone having firmware version below than 188 are those that freezes.

edreab87, you have to report the incident to the store where you buy it for them to coordinate this with NTC. You may also report this to smart or globe or sun cellular but I believe they can only block the sim card and not the phone. Just try to report this to NTC so they can block the phone. They will surely ask for EMEI number. This number is found on the box of that phone if you still have it. And if only you have activated the s853 telephone code like I do, the person who have picked it up will really have the phone useless for him. There's no unlocking software for this phone here in our country yet and he he cannot pawn that phone as pawnshops never accept any cellphone brand except nokia.

It's really very hard to have that phone recovered except if the person who got that is honest enough to return it to the police station or to any radio station or tv station. It happened several times here in cebu that somebody returned a cellphone to a radio station and the announcer informed the listeners about it.

Don't hesitate to buy this phone on your birthday. Just be sure that you purchased the item loaded with 188 or higher firmware version. The comments you have read here saying that this phone sometimes freezes are true but this happen to unit that has the older firmware version or 188 below version. I believe these versions are no longer available. The latest version is 18b.

To all people who have read the post here (or in OT C825) saying that alcatel is dead and to those who post this, may I remind you that alcatel is not dead. It is just merging with TCl to form a good phones with very good quality and price. Just read this prease release from alcatel last June 21,2004 ==>
Paris June 21, 2004 ? TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited
                  ("TCL
Communication"), the intended holding company of Huizhou TCL
                  Mobile
Communication Co., Ltd. ("TCL Mobile"), a leading mobile
                  handsets
manufacturer in China, and Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE:
                  ALA), a
worldwide leader in telecommunications network equipment, applications
                  and
services, today announced the signature of a Subscription
                  Agreement in
connection with the establishment of a joint venture company
                  engaging in
the research and development, subcontracting of manufacturing, sales
                  and
distribution of mobile handsets and peripheral devices.

Significant progress has been made since the signature of the
                  Memorandum of
Understanding ("MOU") was announced on 26, April 2004. The
                  signature of
the Subscription Agreement brings TCL Mobile and Alcatel closer to
                  the
creation of the joint venture company. The Joint Venture will
                  be
                  established in Hong Kong.

As contemplated under the Subscription Agreement, TCL Communication
                  will
contribute cash of €55 million for an equity stake of 55% in the
                  joint
venture and Alcatel will contribute cash and its mobile handset
                  business to
a value of €45 million for the remaining 45% stake. Alcatel's
                  mobile
handset business comprises among other things, leased real
                  properties,
fixtures and equipment, raw materials and finished goods,
                  accounts
receivables, certain intellectual properties owned or licensed by
                  Alcatel,
contracts, liabilities and employees all primarily or exclusively
                  related
                  to the MPD Business.

The estimated net asset value of the joint venture company
                  immediately
after closing is expected to be €100 million.

It is expected that closing will take place in July or August 2004,
                  subject
to approval of shareholders of TCL Corporation, receipt of all
                  required
governmental approvals and execution of various shareholder and
                  operational
                  agreements.

Key Attributes of the Joint Venture Company

TCL Mobile and Alcatel believe that the joint venture company will
                  enable
them to join together their respective strengths in the competitive
                  mobile
handset market and potentially deliver a fast growing and profitable
handset business in the global market.

TCL Mobile and Alcatel believe that some of the main potential
                  benefits
                  are:

                  · Diverse market coverage: TCL Mobile and Alcatel have
                  complementary
handset sales and distribution markets with little or no overlap. The
                  joint
venture and TCL Mobile combined are expected to have an extensive sales
network offering coverage in China, Latin America, Europe and the rest
                  of
the world addressing major operators and distributors. It is further
envisaged that JVCo will benefit from ownership of all Alcatel mobile
handset patents and from licenses of other patents - together allowing
                  JVCo
to compete effectively in the international markets.
                  · Strong Brand and International Profile: Alcatel intends to grant
                  to
the joint venture company a license to use the Alcatel brand name for
handsets sales and distribution, building on the brand's strength in
                  the
                  telecommunications industry globally.
                  · Manufacturing and Cost Synergies: Existing relationships between
Alcatel and key suppliers are expected to continue to benefit the joint
venture. In the future, TCL Mobile intends to enter into manufacturing
agreements with the joint venture to capture production synergies by
leveraging its low-cost production base, as well as creating greater
manufacturing and supply chain management economies of scale as volumes
                  increase.
                  · Technology upgrade and Best Practices: The joint venture company
                  can
gain access to low-cost engineering talent in China, while TCL Mobile
                  can
gain access to the GSM handset technical know-how. The testing and
validation methods contributed by Alcatel to the joint venture company
                  are
expected to enhance quality control and in turn, increase product
                  competitiveness.
                  · Combined R&D: the joint venture is expected to build upon the
                  strong
R&D platform that currently exists under Alcatel, with a focus on
                  high-end
products. R&D co-operation between TCL Mobile and the joint venture
company is expected to deliver R&D cost synergies and increase the pace
                  of
                  product roll-outs.

But I would advise you to have a look at the lastest Alcatel phones, they all have mp3 players and high speed bluetooth file sharing and stereo bluetooth support. And they are really cheap.

I can confirm that the battery performance depends very much on the usage you make of the phone. Full battery power will be available only after charging the phone five or six times! With occasional use of the phone it may last up to 120-140 hours (5 days in continuous). Which in my opinion is very good performance. If you listen to music or play games, no more than 50 hours (2 days in continuous). Another thing is that the 3rd (last) part of the battery indicator does not last longer than 12 hours. This may be misleading if you consider that each of the other two may last 40-50 hours. It's just not linear!...

mads, junrex is located here in Cebu, Philippines. They have branches in Tacloban City and Cagayan. You can visit their website at http://www.junrex.com/contact_us.html. But let me make it clear that I have seen that low price one here in JUNREX Basak (Lapu-Lapu City)branch as I am living here in Basak, Lapulapu City. Maybe (I am not sure) they are offering the same price in their other branches but there is also possibility that the price in this branch is promotional because this branch is a newly opened, just few days. In RC Goldline where I bought mine last month, the price is still goes down. It was Php 9,000.00 before but it is only Php 8,300.00 now and still with 256 mb mini sd card plus all other accessories provided by alcatel. If you want, you can email me at nelson_maus@yahoo.com.

Just simply buy another card that fits your budget. The cheaper brand is still working in this phone. Yes it's true. It's not really the phone's problem but it's the way how you handle the card. You may have mishandled it. Just use another card and tell us here if you still have problem.

Anyway, to anybody from the Philippines who still don't have this phone and wants to buy, for your information, this phone is available at a very low price now. When I purchased mine last month it's Php 9,000 or 187.50 USD(package includes 256 mb mini sd card plus other items provided by alcatel) but now it's only Php7,500 OR 153.25 USD(package includes 128 mini sd card). The firmware version is 18b. I saw this price in JUNREX when I visited there few hours ago and I beleive that this is still much cheaper in RC GOLDLINE.

That's not Alcatels fault, it could be that the card just broke down, it happens quite often, maybe you have often removed the card from the phone and or you have had it close to a magnet. Cards break down more quickly if that happens... so again its not really Alcatels fault.

there is new version of opera mini out now.

if you wanna have the advanced version of opera mini you should to www.operamini.com/download/pc/ (the download to your desktop computer from the front page) with your pc and choose one of more simple alcatel mobile phones like One Touch 757! download both files and transfer them your memory card (no need to rename the files) and look for opera mini under "games & appl." you may choose to transfer the file the phone memory

now you can browse with opera mini in full screen!

PS you should delete any old version of opera mini in the mobile before transferring the new version
