I've bought one. It doesn't have Bluetooth v2, it's only bluetooth v1.1 and v1.2 compilant, and ONLY connect to headphones, not to other cels.
And it doesn't have EMS either. So you can't send "animated emotions", unless you use MMS which is more expensive than SMS ans EMS.
Two very bad points to this pretty cel.

If you don't use the phone ar a playstation or as a mobile disco the battery should hold up for 3 days easily. If you only use it for calls occasionally the phone should last for 5 days or more, depending on the fact if you have certain other functions activated or not... like network messaging.

confused girl, honestly in my own experience, the battery last only for a day and I have to charge it everyday. And this is because I am always using the phone, not every hour though but I am always playing games in this phone for one to two hours straight and another minutes (or even hours) on playing videos and taking videos and pictures. But I believe that if my usage is minimal, the battery life will last for two to three days. It really depends upon you use it. And if you use it in calling alone, (I have not tried it at long times, just experienced calling for 5 to ten minutes and the battery is still not low)I believed that the battery will really last for two to three days. Again, it depends upon how you use it.

is it true that the battery of S853 last only for a day and maximum of 2days? how come? how can i utilized the phone if i have to recharge everyday??? and how can i used it for calls if that's the case? anyone, do you have any energy saver tips??? please Thanks!

Thanks Nelson my trusty sidekick :D! But yes Luigi, what Nelson said is true... just take the phone to the nearest Alcatel service center and they will upload the newest firmware for you.

Luiggi, the latest firmware is available only in the authorized dealer or service center. Just take your phone their and bring the official receipt and other important documents that proves that your is still under warranty and they will reload it with the new firmware for free. Also, for the last time, the bluetooth function of this phone is only for headset.

hi guys,
here we go with another problem. In call log - billing there are settings for duration.ok, i have 60 prepaid minutes so i want setup these 60 min as aviable duration. ok, and the reseting date is every 6th of month. all the settings are correct but the phone just shows total duration. its not lowering aviable duration.? i am asking why? On my old 735 this works fine, showing always how much time i have, but here arghhhh

sam, I cannot believe that it got virus for as far as I know virus only appear when you are using bluetooth in transferring file from other phone to your phone. There have been many nokia phones and SE phones and other phones who are damaged with virus when the user used bluetooth in transferring files but most phones today are being loaded with anti virus. OT S853 does not use bluetooth in transferring files so for me it's should not be the virus that makes your phone unoperational. But just take your phone to the service center nearest you.

How do you know it has got a virus? Go to your local Alcatel Service Center and have the phone purged, or contact Alcatel directly!

webdude:correct, also the older versions don't have Español as option in the Languages section when writing SMS messages.
KnightRider: I guess, I just have to trust the people from Versatile on the firmware version as I do not have any other way of determining my firmware version, so no sticker or such at all... but now that I know the code for resetting the phone this won't be a problem anymore... (i hope... :)

xanz, bluetooth of this phone is only for headset but you can still transfer mp3, pictures and other files via infrared.

I'm quite sure that you keep the same firmware during the memory reset (you need special tools to change/tamper with the firmware (that is why service centres exist). The code just make phone delete all which stored in the phone memory
The problem with the "other" section could be caused by some java programs/games still saved in phone or your memory card (the "other" section get bigger after installing/using java programs/games and can smaller if delete it - but there is also other things which take op the space in "other" section). But modern technology do strange things which are some times mysterious to the user - so I guess the "other" section is one those "mysteries".
You could also check which firmware version you by seeing your phone has any features which only exist in the new firmware: like recording video without a time limit (settings:save on the memory card). I didn't not have this option before I had my phone firmware upgraded from version 166 to version 188

OT-BOY: did you check your sticker to see if it actually is version 18b? Or did your telecom provider actually prove it black on white? Cause it still sounds that it has not the most recent version...
Marius: Yes all of these phone and most of them are based on the M5 (S853) platform, plus they support high speed file sharing and stereo bluetooth and mp3... however... this is a great development, I am still keeping my eyes peeled and fingers crossed for a new range topping S model.
Also about the release dates, these phone should be available as soon as spring arrives... as they are based on the already developed M5 platform so the theory that the S853 took long so these new ones will too is not true! But yes TCL has big plans for Alcatel, I just hope they release some of their high end smart phone like the TCL E787 under the Alcatel brand in Europe.
Xanz: I would just go and buy the phone, its a great unit! Just make sure the firmware is up to date... make sure you ask the seller before actually buying, other than that I can only strongly advise the phone! I love it.

thanks nelson, just want to ask if its true that i cant use the bluetooth with other phone models? so it means i cant share photos, videos, etc to nokia, motorola etc?
btw, what's with the diffrerent versions? why do they release different versions? and what's with the dictionary?

xanz, Don't hesitate. Go buy this phone but just be sure (ask the sales clerk) that the unit you are going to buy has 188 firmware version or higher than 188.
