to Webdude:
wow finally a helpful response to our problem!!! The dictionary is accesible again, and since all my important files are on the memory stick I can do this on a regular basis. Just one question, will the firmware be reset to its original old version, too? anyway, the dictionary is now empty and accessible again. Still, the "others" section in the phone's memory seems to remain untouched and getting bigger and bigger. Mine is now 51kb in size. Thanks webdude, you made my day! hehe...

if any one have a memory problem with phone - try the following code (I have only to vipe the memory on 535) to delete everything in the phone memory:
###847# - return to factory settings, this deletes everything in mobile, including contacts and calendar
Remember to back up everything (pictures/melodies/contacts and make a note of the settings for wap/gprs/mms) before performing the procedure

to d: I believe the unlocking of the Bluetooth will not be possible for 853.
On the other hand the new phones are having A2DP. And 4 (four) of the new ones are already AVAILABLE as GSMARENA says.
I think there are more to be announced next month in Hanover at the CBiT event.

to marius, yes lot of phones but check the specs. All the machines are now mid-end phones and we know how long it takes until they hit market so same as 853. But 853 is still best one accoerding to specs. only thing that is missing is flight mode and fully working bluetooth.
to all: Do you think that "unlocking" bluetooth can be done in some firmware modifications?

Knight Rider: wtf? wtf? wtf? I don't believe it?! 16 new phones + C820 launched in the same day at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. I think this the most important event in the last 4 years for this brand.
They have big business plans!

Apparently I have V18b, according to Versatile telecoms... and the phone still crashes when accessing the dictionary. Well, what I did before is pulling out the battery, too, in order to hard reset the phone. Another workaround is that you just wait and after a few minutes from clicking the dictionary option, the phone resets itself. I also had some words that could not be deleted before, but I really don't know why or what is different about these words. My charger also gave up, but after 4 months, I think. and the warranty for phone accessories was only for 3months... bad luck, hehe.. but i managed to find a generic charger with the exact same rating at the Ayala MRT station for about P130. It has been working fine so far, although it takes a little longer to fully charge the phone. Others have tried motorola chargers (that of V3 if i'm not mistaken), which I was also opting to buy initially. However, since it had a slightly different rating I bought the generic one instead with the same rating.

The phone that features local firmware can in theory be modified to the international version yes... but why go through that trouble? When you can buy the international version directly from www.protel.de! They also provide repairs and service to Alcatels (even outside europe)... so you can ask them all the details about fimrware updates!
The newer firmware versions (18x) so I mean 188, 18b etc... do not crash after opening the dictionary and thus are able to delete all of the words individually
Also check out the latest Alcatel phones!!!!

hey its me again in another name.
i bought my ot s853 last october 2006 at SM baguio, so my firmware version is 173. ...but then so far so good, nice fone with its high quality speakers.
i am a busy student and i have a job here in baguio so i seldom travel to manila. if ever i have the chance, i still have no time to visit versatile to have my fone upgrade.
here is the catch, a lot of users now are complaining about their dictionary. and i found out that it is true, only that i still have the ample memory space that is why i can still send sms without warning of "no space available". the thing is when opening the dictionary so i could delete the words stalled, my phone really freezes that i have to take off the battery for a reboot.
i think this is a major flaw for the designers of ots853. there is no way we can delete or simply at least turn off the dictionary.
my questions is..., is the higher firmware version of ots853 will have the same problem with its dictionary? if not, will i have to go to manila for an upgrade or simply surrender my phone to the shop where i bought and they are the ones who will bring my phone there in manila?
i hope you could help me with these problems.
P.S. but of course my papers and receipt are sstill in tact and i have a one year guarantee.
and by the way, the charger gave up after 3 months of use so i have to buy a new one.
thank you. hope for a reply knightrider and friends.

Knight Rider and Azm,
.
Thank you very much for your advices...
.
I went to Alcatel service center to buy this phone (since it seems that the normal shops do not have it anymore).
.
I listened to the MP3 player through the speaker and I was very impressed! I was about to buy but they informed me that I can use 512MB card only!
.
I asked why, since I saw this web site (and had asked Knight Rider myself) that 1GB card can be used with the latest firmware.
.
He said that we have the latest firmware, but it is the local version, not the internation version, so it do not support 1GB card.
.
Since I do not want local language support, I asked whether it is possible to install internation firware for me and they said no...
.
If I buy the mobile here, can I have the service center in other countries (who use international version of firmware) change it for me?
.
(Sorry for this weird question...)
.
Thanks!

I'm sure that lady is still experiencing this problem even when ALL messages are deleted. This happened to me,too. I already deleted all possible messages, starting from the sent items, the inbox, to the unsent items, etc.. but the phone still seems to be out of memory. I really do think that the dictionary has to do something with it. Is the dictionary sharing the memory used for storing sms messages? I needed to get an update for being able to send messages again, and the people from versatile telecoms told me that they have installed the latest version at that time, 18b, but still after only a week of usage, the same problem with the dictionary has been occuring again. When trying to delete words, I cannot even access the dictionary cause the phone freezes when attempting it. So i fear that over a certain period of time I won't be able again to send or receive messages. By the way, it is possible to call in that status, only the SMS is malfunctioning. To Alcatel: Could you please include a function that can turn off the automatic saving of words or at least a "delete all words" option? Are we, lady and I, the only ones affected by this? Thanks

iceberg, I'm an alcatel fan but to be honest with you, for me SE has the best camera/video output as it comes from sony technology. But this does not mean that Alcatel phone's camera/video output is not good. It's camera/video output is better than nokia's output. Actually, I have compared my s853's camera/video output with my brother's K750 and K750 has the best result as it is 2 megapixel. But s853's camera/video is still good.
