iceberg, the sms sending and receiving problem is not because of this phone. This problem really happen when your inbox is full so you really have to delete the messages there or archive them. Don't be discourage to buy just because of that problem. Just be sure to buy ot s853 with firmware version 188 or higher. This firmware version does not have any problem that firmware version below 188 had before. I've experienced sms sending problem once with my s853 (195 version) but when I delete all the messages in my inbox everything works fine.

The C key is not just for deleting... it is as you said also used for going "back" in certain menu's, this is because most of the Alcatel users are used to this feature as all previous Alcatels used the C butten to go back... So people get used to that.

Isnt the 188 firmware stupid. Key "c" is for deleting when browsing pictures/movies/apps but in SMS/MMS is not deleting the item but it takes user back in menu. Well there is soft key "back" for this option so it makes no sense to me. why is deleting pics and sms no!!??!! so only way for deleting message is thru options.
Is the same in all versions?? thanks

Where are you from luke? Seeing as your phone still has the 162 firmware version (which is seriously outdated) I would advise you to find the receipt of your purchase (as proof of warranty) and contact your local Alcatel Service Center in your country to get it updated to the latest firmware version for free!!

Hi guys, mine is not an opinion as such but i do need some help as regards my phone. It is a very nice phone but of late it has started giving me some few problems which i think your echnicians can help me over come. One of the problems is that the phone can no longer send text sms messages. It comes up with the phrase ''out of memory cannot send message'' or even when a message has been sent, it just puts a phrase''no memory for new message''. The other problem it has is that it does freeze when its buttons are pressed for atleast five times continuously. Please is there any way you can advise me on these problems. The phone has the following writings at the back ie
CE
FCC ID:RADO26 M5 T&A
mobile phones
162 51fa11 0fp
S853X-3AALDK1
356698000538554.
The above is all the description on my phone. I will be very grateful on receiving any reply from you. Thanks

Indeed, Knight Rider.
Let's hope will find out more news than from the current site, that obviously is not an Alcatel fan :)
By the way, do you know what will T&A announce during the 3GSM World Congress?

Very good site you just showed Marius... that is the official retailer and importer of Alcatel phones in the US and Canada. I thought the site would be online later this year... but seems like it is online for a while now... good! Nice site too, good deal of info and pictures!

If i connect my 853 with PC by USB cable when phone screen is off then PC cant see phone memory card.
If i unplug USB cable when phone screen is off then USB icon remains on screen, otherwise all seems to be ok.
If GPRS disengaged when screen is off then GPRS icon dont go off.

lady, just press the OK button, select My Settings, select More Settings and select Dictionary then press the left soft key and choose Delete word. You cannot delete the words there at once; you have to delete it one by one.
To the other poster, this is really the default of this phone. Because this is a phone, if you receive a message while listening to fm radio or mp3, S853 mutes the music and take you to the sms received. Same thing if you received a call. But when you're done with the sms or call S853 unmutes the music. Knight Rider can explain more for you.

The phone its good but im agree with other user who experience problems with the software installed on the phone by default. I bought this mobile phone on december 2006 and immediatly iv'e experience 'bugs': -slow data processing when accessing most of the data stored, more on the memory card. -no zoom option when viewing images. -Mp3 player stops when writing sms or playing java games and using wap browser. althoug it has very good features: -excellent sound on loudspeakers. -gprs/edge data transmision. -clear lcd display. -horizontal camera function, video. -remote control on headset cable(very useful) and others. I took my phone for technical support cause the alphanumeric keypad dont work about a month i bough it so they gave me a new phone because the manufacturer do not change any separate part of the phone, only the entire inner main board and it came with newest firmware so now its working fine at all! So i think its good, but only the newest versions of the phone and built in software. Write here if any has experienced 'bugs' thanx. Pd. Sorry about my english, in from colombia. Bye.
