Knight Rider: I'm an Alcatel user and fan too, but let's be honest -> using the infrared sounds like middle age of the mobile phones to me.
I think you'll cry beside the two devices waiting for the exchange to finish.

My phone firmware has been upgraded to 188 version. So anyone can tell me 188 version can support 1Gb memory card? And it will work fast? Please help me. Thank you.

To Hypersonic,
You have to use your phone to format the memory card once or twice until the memory card has 2 folders: DCIM and My Content. In My Content folder you will see 4 other folders. Among them is My Sounds folder. You have to save any music folders of your own in the My Sounds folder. do the same with other kinds of files. I think it will not take long when you open the music player function. Good luck.

Yes this phone CAN send MP3's and other data through infrared!

Thanks a lot, Mark. Am just asking because my friend told me that he tried to visit sun cellular's business center here in sm city cebu just to have his SEK750 gprs activated but the lady in charge their says they can only activate gprs for nokia cell phone. I don't wat to believe this and that's why I've tried to ask from you. Thanks anyway.

to jimmy of cebu.... to activate your gprs/mms you must contact your operator... smart, globe, sun etc... then they will give you the configuration to activate your mms and gprs. or simply visit any of their business centers which are usually located in the malls. they will configure your mms or gprs settings for you. gprs settings does not depend on your unit type whether it is alcatel nokia motorola or sony ericsson etc. it depends on the service provider. hope i do you a little help. you may contact me at this number... 09287955134.

hi i'm mark from manila philippines. the latest firmware here in the philippines is ver. 188. you can simply bring your phone and its warranty and receipt to alcatel exclusive distributor... which is versatile telecoms. it is located at the pearl of the orient tower in roxas boulevard just in front of the U.S. Embassy. My Opinion for this phone is that it's great to have this phone. The Stereo sound is far more better than the motorola sony ericsson or nokia mobile phones. it is indeed the sound machine as it was advertise here in their pamphlets. The picture is clear. the phone is brighter or evenly lighted i can read it even a couple of feet away from me. im far sighted. I have a 512 mb on my phone. the phone works faster now after its sofware is upgraded. For added info... you can use a motorola charger for this phone. i dont know if it is a moto slvr or v3x charger. how i wish that the bluetooth of this phone has a data transfer capability. sadly this phone's bluetooth is only for handsfree communication. this is a unique phone. i hope that alcatel would still continue to produce cheap but quality phone.

to all alcatel fans in kuala lumpur,
i had some problems with my s853 and had it repaired in a mobile care center in lowyat plaza 2 months ago. i'm in vietnam so i had my friend get the phone back 4 me. now the friend will be in kuala lumpur until 24/11/06. he came to lowyat lpaza 2 find alcatel counter but a lot peole told him the alcatel counter do not exist any more. it means that i will lose my s853.
can anyone please help me get the correct information about lowyat alcatel center? if yes please give me a phone number to contact. i need your help much. my friend's number is +60163855089. can anyone help him ( his name's hung).

Yes the latest firmware (188) would speed it up somewhat, but what would speed it up too is a highspeed premium branded memory card, those cards have "high speed" on the packaging too. Hope this helped ;-)

Hi Have a 1GB card in my s853, it is about 75% full. It takes a REALLY long time to get into the music player and play any tunes. My firmware version is 177. How can i get the phone to be quicker? latest firmware? Its really annoying. Otherwise a great phone...

Yes Luke, older Alcatel games (should) work on this phone, the view could be different though as the resolution is much higher on the S853. Try looking for 176 x 220 pixel games, they could work too! It is just a case of trial and error.
