To drareg:

Regarding the flash light I agree with Knight Rider. The flashlight is needen only where it is absolutely dark. I only had one situation when I needed the flash light. I neede to shoot the area behind the drawers for some probbably dropped things. I used my wife's Samsung then. Otherwise I just turn on this nightshooting mode of 853 and am satisfied with the results in lower light situations. Besides, I don't think that a mobile flash can make much use, cause the camera flash is useful up to 5 meters perhaps, and the mobile flash could make up to 1 meter I guess :)

GSM Arena is the best mobile phone reviewer in the net today. It's a pity though that it did not update it's preview of the OT-S853 to a review. It would have bee nice to know if the blue tooth improved or of the quality of the pictures the camera too.

      hi kababayan

      d fon s n d malls already. it's price range from 13,400PhP to 11,300Php.

It's direct competitors as an all around headset-free stereo phone are Asus V66, Motorola Hijacked and Sony Ericson W550i.

d OT-S beats the hijacked and V66 in sound matters but they are relatively cheaper.

Sony's small walkman equals d OT-S in sound quality and is much louder. It is also more expensive (price range: 17,200Php to 12,700PhP) and doesn't have an expandable memory.

Am currently trying to restrain myself from buying the OT-S for fear that any of the W550i's bigger brothers like the W800i or the W810 might drop their prices when Sony Ericson will introduce its first 3G walkman in this country. If their prices will drop down to 12k to 13K level then that would make them grand catches.

No the cam does not have a flash light. But to be perfectly honest... you do not really need it either... only situation I can imagine where you need it is absolute night time photography... but usually those kind of pictures are really bad...

Mshaddad: No as of now you can NOT update the phone by your self... you should go to your store where you bought it and ask them if they have the latest firmware available so they can update it for you... or you could contact your local Alcatel service center and ask them to update it, visit the Alcatel website www.tcl-ta.com for contact information.

          Hi wireless,

tnx for your reply. I am a lifestyle photographer so I have other cameras at my service ither than that of the phone. (But still the presence of a flash would be cute, dontcha think?)

Anyways am morte inclined to the OT cuz of the expandable memory which I will cramp with music since I don't own an i-pod.

By the way there's another phone on my mind -the motorola hi-jack which also has an expendable memory but only a .3mp cam. (Again cam is not of much importance to me.)

still I'd like to hear from you again.
          :)

I also wanted to buy the w550i, but i luckily decided to buy the s853. I read some reports where users were telling that the "turning-mechanism" gets loose under daily Use. I really don`t want a phone falling apart. ;-)

                Hi guys,

does the OT-s853 have a flash too like the Sony Ericson W550i?

Am currently choosing between this 2 phones. The OT is slightly cheaper and allows a memory card expansion.

anybody here who have tried both phones?

                thanks

To samy, I believe x700 is the nearest competitor in bar form + 1.3mp cam + radio + memory card. you can read the x700 review here to know more. the main disadv for x700 that mp3 can't be played in background at all and of course you don't get the superb stereo speaker and you will get poorer phonebook also. pricewise they almost the same- here in Malaysia x700 & s853 selling at ~USD230.

                    To Wilson:

I guess you can save 30 messages to your SIM card, not the phonje memory. Try archiving the messages - they are transfered to the memory then. In fact, I do not know whether there is a possibility to transfer the SMS to the memory card.

The Site I poster earlier is not my site! I just happen to know it has S853 compatible games that were all tested if they work or not and they all do!

Jim: You can try to contact Protel, its a german based Alcatel retailer and service center... I know they can deliver to other countries as well. Their internet site is: www.protel.de they offer good service as I have some experience with them! But make sure that when you buy the phone to ask them if they could make sure that they deliver the one with the newest firmware to you... so that you will not have any problems with bugs... that would save you the aggrevation of sending it back. If you have any questions email me at : un112@msn.com

                        Hi,
Is there anyone nice enough to email me the default game of this phone, please? I forgot to make a backup before bringing it to the service center to upgrade it. My email is

                        => yehrwin@lycos.com

Thanks in advance! and feel free to send me other games if possible, thanks :)

As for simple Java games (such as tetris, etc) and other applications, there are loads of free stuff at getjar.com (some of which are only demo versions though). I wasn't able to find another site, but, then again, I didn't try torrent, yet... ;P

                            To Saser:

Mine could not update my firmware either. SO I sent the phone back to France :)
After nearly two months I am fine again, this time I've got a really working phone, nearly bugless.

Why? Why again? When the ot735 came out they locked its infrared for transfers between devices. And now they locked the bluetooth transfer in S853! Why again the sam mistake alcatel? in 735 they dont fixed that. Hope maybe in this phone in future to unlock the bluetooth.

KnightRider: Nice site, but ever thought of making an english version. I`m not able to speak hungarian so its kind of hard to navigate your site.

Wireless: If the service center did not apply a new sticker... then as far as I know the only way is to contact them and ask... because untill now I have no clue how to find out otherwise... If anyone has please tell us. But Wireless, the important thing is as long as the phone is fine now!

                                      Tina: http://gportal.hu/gindex.php?pg=10246703
                                      There you go ;-) !

Hannah: As far as I know you really need an SD-card for that... I am sure there are other ways, like sending the file directly to the phone by infrared. But using the SD-card is so much more easy, you just drag and drop the game in the folder where you want it... just like a USB stick really. So My advice is get an SD-card as they are really cheap 128 mb cards cost about €10, now you got to agree thats affordable! So try that!

                                        To HUNG

Hi there lad. Sorry for your phone, but perhaps it really is out of memory? Besides, if it really annoys you perhaps you should try leaving your phone until it is absolutely dead - I don't know for how long, 3 days perhaps. And then try again. One guy from another forum managed to solve the problem of WHITE SCREEN (not turning on) as we both know that :)
