I just got my S853 2 weeks ago and I seem to have a problem with the firmware.
I use my phone as a modem for connecting to the internet, but the phone will disconnect every few minutes with an error message on windows saying usb is not reconized. The usb icon will be display on the phone even after I plug out the cable.
Windows will detect my phone again only after I restart my phone but will encounter the same problem after a few minutes.
please tell me how do I check for firmware version and where to get a latest copy.

i need HELP ! where to find newest f/w,hot to flash it and with what software. pls it`s urgent because i gave my E398 for this phone, it`s great but it`s realy SLOW :(

I've been testing all the functions of the OT-S853 and everything is almost perfect except for one thing I noticed.
The time stamped in the SENT message folder
is advanced by 8 hrs. Is there anyone who noticed this and already know how to correct.

Thanks for the thoughts about me. I'm flattered. Indeed I'm an Alcatel fan, too,
although I don't know what it "really" means.
I had several models until now: OTE, OTC, OTM, 300, 501, 512, 525, 535, 715, 735, 552. And stop. But this 853 made me an "unfan".
I have decided to buy it, then I've waited 14 months, then I've found out about all the bugs and problems listed on this forum in the last 32 pages (because the first 17 pages were a debate about the releasing date)... When the phones were made by Alcatel there were good products, but now with TCL... I'm not sure anymore.

Maybe you're right about this "FM Radio Ringtone" capability, but other phones that have Bluetooth are capable to connect to each other or to a PC. It's not the case of the 853. The "fans" must wait for a software update or for a new model to be released. Let bet: the 860 will come out in 2007 or in 2008? I'd say the second one!

hello, can anyone help me with the installation? my pc has windows XP with service pack 2 but i cant install the software, my pc doesn't find my phone usb and doesnt find the right programs to stear it...

For those who are having problemms with the installation, the "Alcabus.sys" can be found on "C:/Windows/System32/Drivers" and not on the installation disk....Enjoy the phone.

Congratulations fromphil. Your phone contains the latest firmware version - the version where bugs of the old firmware are already corrected. And for those who have bought this phone during the first release of this phone are encouraged to bring your phone to the Alcatel dealer or distributor nearest you for the latest firmware uploading and its for free.
To Gigel, you are Samsung fan and I would like you to show us if there is Samsung model that has the capability of making FM radio as ringtone. This phone is capable of doing that. You just have to make sure that you attach the headset.

I've been using the OT-S853 for 2 weeks and it is working perfectly. For 11,300 philippine pesos, you get the ff:
1.3M Camera with sound, max of 10min video with sound, max of 1 min voice recording, very clear sound,speakerphone,USB,IR,Java,
32x40 screen bigger than SE K800i,Expandable Memory(mine is 512MB),programmable keys,key shortcuts,2 txt size adjustments,Vibrate modes,high speed wap,edge,full size calendar(appointments,todo),Worldtime, MP3,FM RADIO,Supports 3GP,MPG4,AMR,MIDI. Message,Ringtone can be set using MP3,MIDI,AMR.
My software ver. is 177 from Versatile telecom, Roxas blvd. philippines.

No1, you obviously don't know what "fan" means.. So, no, you are not right..
No2, my s853 doesn't have any bug issue, and my other 5 old alcatels didn't have bugs..
No3, you can't possibly have a decent and 100%functional Samsung that's under 400$.. Well, I don't know anyone who has cheaper Samsung whitout any problems.. Not to mention that Samsungs IRDA isn't functional at all (on those models cheaper than 400$)
No4, and here you get 100% functional phone, price only (aprox) 330$. Not to mention the utter beauty.

Bought this phone today and I´m very happy with it so far. I just have one question. When I´m installing the USB-driver, the installation asks for a file called : alcabus.sys... and it says that I shall put in a CD called "Alcatel mobile phones composite device driver installation disk"
How can I fix this? It doesnt work with the Pc-suite disk... =(

I just buy the phone, from it is agent in Egypt. And I found it really wonderfull one by a very good price if u look for a Nokia or a SE you wont find one eith this price have all that option. The sound louder then SE W550i, the software is allmost the same from SE & Siemens. The phone play all file format. The only proplem us it's Bluetouth never contact with other phone (and I'm to develope this soon). Don't waste you time to think about it...Go buy it now

This can play mpeg4 files. Nokia phones that have the same features as this are priced of more than 377 USD.
