I am a big fan of alcatel and I find Alcatel Phones as very durable but could someone give me their honest opinion regarding the quality of the camera and video. I am about to buy a phone and I could hardly choose between Samsung D510 and this phone. Pls!. To anyone familiar of this phone.

Jenny: The phone writes sms in a normal speed to be honest, you can write in a pretty good tempo once you acustom yourself with the keypad. The menues work ok aswell (though older firmware version might be a bit slower when entering certain funtion, the newer ones should be more optimized in terms of speed). Soundquality is good, infact it is the showstopper of this phone, it is THE feature that makes people go "WOW"! The loudness is sufficient enough.
Yes this phone can vibrate and ring at the same time! The calender is pretty good you can organize pretty much everything you could possibly have in your personal/profesional life and it naturally has an alarm clock. The navigation button (the silver ring) can be pressed in 4 directions (so it works as a D-pad like on a game console). Well so much for you questions... Just one small warning, be aware of early firmware versions of the phone. They could cause some problems, the newer ones though are all working properly.

Well what should I do if I don't have a IR port on my computer?
It is true that the usb connection doesn't work with the phone. Even if you use the software from the T&A site from alcatel.
It sucks as I can't really use the phone like I would have liked.

I´m thinking of getting this phone but as I´ve never owned an alcatel before I have some questions. Is it fast when you write sms? And how about that in the menues?
Soundquality? Is it loud enough to hear in crowds?
Does it vibrate and ring at the same time? I´ve had a phone wich couldn´t. Quite annoying.
How good is the calender?
How does the navigation button work? Hard to see in pictures. Do you spin it or can you just press in four directions?
It does have an alarm clock, right?
I hope someone can take a few minutes to answer my questions.

Try the IR port.
Actually I only used the USB to tranfer files to the miniSD card. I think my PC might haven't been able to communicate with the 853 via the USB cable also. Just try the IR.

Thanks for the advice, but I've already tried that and unfortunatley that doesn't seem to work either.
Can it be something on my computer? it is a windows xp with special pack 1...but that should be correct according to the user guide.

Download the 4.18 version of the PCSUITE or patch the 4.17 with the patch that is now available in the official site of this device. The software that came in the CD ain't good enough. Then try again.

You have to install the PCSuite which came with your phone! During the installation the Software install the usb drive which you need to connect your Phone with your PC!
The mms settings you need to get them from your Provider!

Hello,
I've bought a OT-S853 but somehow my computer won't find my mobile.
I use the usb wire that was dileverd with the mobile and I have no clue what to do.
Could somebody help me
Ps. Does anybody had the correct settings to receive MMS on this mobile? As I can't get that to work either.

If you can provide NOKIA model (or any brand) that has the same features that this phone has and of THE SAME PRICE as this, we are willing to with you. You know, NOKIA is a high price phone but with not so good quality because of its being number 1. ALCATEL is a low price but high quality phone. Here in the Philippines, SE's K750i is P15,000 or USD 289.00 but its sound is not worth comparing with this phone which is only P11,500 or USD 221.00. Anyway, we are giving you respect with your opinion.

HI brod + all phone owners/ commentors.
Mine is 164 as malaysian version is one of the earliest to come out in mid Feb. I bought 2 phone about one week from launch date from sg wang.
I think for first ever alcatel phone with 1.3mpix cam it surely not the best one around .pict quality is comparable to nearest rival with stereo speaker + 1.3mpix cam SE W550 but lose out to samsung x700 1.3mpix cam.
For menu display I agree with mr knight rider & of course most of the s853 owner here are also owner of many alcatel phone before and the menu display are almost the same as previous model from alcatel. For new user/owner you will also become familiar very fast with the menu - there's nothing complicated about it I think? So far I have bought 14 different phone model from Alcatel(5), Sony Ericsson(1), Motorola(4) , Siemens(1),Panasonic(1) , Nokia(1) , Philips(1)& my personal opinion is that alcatel menu interface is one of the most user friendly- but everyone will have their own personal opinion.
Guys out there, if you think resolution of 176x220 with 262K colours is not enough for you try buying something like panasonic VS6/VS7 with 240x320 pixel screen with 16 milion colours-enough for you? Or wait for few more years until someone bring out their
VGA display for normal mobile phone.

Dimiter, with all due respect, but I completely disagree with you! The 1.3 mpix camera is actually in my opinion good, or at least good enough, it beats the Nokia 6230i. Mp3 sound is unequaled by any phone, PERIOD. And interfase wise, it is really self explanatory. But ofcourse, anyone even you is entitled to their own opinion.

hi to all...this phone's camera is the worst i've ever tried and seen in 1.3 mpix phone... the mp3 is good but the interface of the phone is trully crap. display has many colours but the size of it is not so big and the pixels are owful. it is hardly worth. if the price was 50$ cheaper i will be a good shot on the market from alcatel, but the company have appearead like bad company with no future

Maybe another good thing about the mobile is the ability to connect normal stereo jacks to its remote control set.
Am so happy cause i connect a cassete adapter to my ot853 control unit and use-it as a car kit.
Hope that we all get the latest firmware soon

I use Opera Mini on my 853 so it works :)
