Apple announces M3 iPad Airs

Michail, 04 March 2025

Apple unveiled its latest iPads today with the 11” and 13” iPad Air (2025) getting the Apple M3 chip. The new chipset is pretty much the only meaningful addition for the new iPad Airs.

The Air 11” (2025) and Air 13” (2025) get the M3 chip (8-core CPU, 9-core GPU, 16-core NPU) which replaces the M2 in last year’s models. The SoC is paired with 8GB RAM. Apple says the M3 iPad Airs offer 2x faster performance than the M1 iPad Air, which was launched back in 2022. We don’t get the same details comparing the M3 Airs to their M2 predecessors from last year.

The rest of the specs are in line across the board with last year’s iPad Airs, including screen sizes, display resolution and the refresh rate, which is still capped at 60Hz. You get a pair of 12MP cameras, Apple Intelligence and a USB-C 3.1 connector. Apple did not update the Wi-Fi 6E or Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. Touch ID is still present inside the power button.

The other new bit is the updated Magic Keyboard, which now boasts a larger trackpad and a new row of function keys.

Yeah, they even compared the performance to the 2022 version so a three year release schedule makes more sense

This. It feels like this release was completely unnecessary other than for promoting the new keyboard. I don't know, I think a two to three year release schedule is better for these tablets.
