ahn, 04 Jan 2021can we force it to update to ios 10?Not at all it is way too weak and old. IOS 9.3.5 is already too much of a task for the iPad. Products with the A5 and A5x chip are called the cursed chip for a reason. IOS 9.3.5 killed everything that ended on it.

Then, go to App Store and go to the purchased section and scroll down util you see YouTube. Click download and then a notification will pop up on your screen saying " This version of the app is not compatible, do you want to download the latest compatible version " and press yes. You are welcome. Same concept with any other app or game.

Without any last compatible version involved, the iPad is really only good for some basic things that still supports iOS 9.3.5 unless if that game was released much later into the past decade that still supports that older iOS. But before reading, I would heavily recommend a 64GB model.
Here’s what you can do:
1) email, iMessage and FaceTime still works fine. Just keep in mind the camera weren’t exactly great, even by 2011 standards.
2) it’ll support some of the older games that is still around as of the end of November 2020 and was originally made for this iPad when released onto the App Store that still hasn’t moved past the iOS 9.3.5 to this day during its few updates. Games like:
- Walking Dead season 1 & 2
- N.O.V.A. 3 (Premium and Freedom Edition)
- The Room 1 & 2
- Dead Trigger 1 & 2
- Dead Effect
- Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City & San Andreas
- Max Payne
- Real boxing 1 & 2
- Dark Meadow: The Pact
- Epoch 1 & 2
- Bio Inc
- Rage of the Gladiator
- Injustice: Gods Among Us
- popular games like bejeweled, candy crush, angry birds & Plants vs Zombies.
.... and so forth.
3) If you can find an 64GB model with decent battery, it can still technically be used as a video player by downloading movies onto it via iTunes Store.
4) Thanks in part of the whole iCloud and iPhoto sharing capability, as long as your devices are an iOS device and that you open up its iPhoto sharing capability, the videos and pictures you’ve taken on your newer iPhone, it’ll automatically be ported into your iPad 2’s photo section shortly and you can basically just turn it into a digital picture frame and as well as play back any videos you’ve recorded on your iPhone or other iOS devices that’s capable of iPhoto sharing.

Below are the apps I can personally confirm still works on the iPad 2 by means of Last Compatible version and it does in my experience give the iPad 2 somewhat of a second life. PS. This somewhat applies to the iPhone 4s as well but can’t confirm it due to me never owning one.
5) Tubi TV, Crackle, YouTube & Popcornflix will provide you with free LEGAL movies and a few tv shows. The only catch is you have to watch a bunch of ads. Like many Netflix folks already know, you should download a VPN to change your IP address so you’d have access to other contents that might not be available in the country you are currently reside in. Or if you are in Canada but somehow you had downloaded Crackle app before 2018, then you will need the VPN and set it in a country it supports to get it working. Same logic with Popcornflix if you live in Canada.
6) Spotify works on it just fine on it and would highly recommend it if you wanna listen to music on your iPad.
7) Microsoft office apps like Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneDrive. These apps are likely an essential if you are a student that needs to type on word docs. I would highly recommend downloading and use Spotify on this device if you wanna create a music playlist and listen to it while typing up a word document. It seriously does do that kind of simultaneous multitasks just fine, just that you should use a headphone or a speaker if you care at all about sound quality.
8) Use this as a cookbook. I’m sure there are still some cookbook apps you can download and use it as a recipe guide.
Sorry for the long read but I’m just saying this tablet may be old but I’d say this device isn’t entirely useless and Apple really had build this device pretty well that it can still be pretty useful after 9 years.

Anonymous, 14 Jul 2020I purchased it with 512 mob RAM, it's my mistake to ch... moreyou should be using an existing apple ID with previous downloads/purchased already of the apps that you need. then you go to appstore on your ipad 2 and go to Purchased. you will see all the previously downloaded apps there.
if your ID is new and no previous app downloads yet, you may want to use someone's account

This iPad was terrible. 6 years after I got it, it’s completely dead. By completely dead, I mean that it doesn’t even turn on.

I still have this model,working fine. it has been 8 years and still it does the work,only speaker is gone, otherwise none of the components is out of order. It has become slow and laggy(obvious) , but is still good in terms! It has been mu best investment in technology so far
