[deleted post]Here's the thing, If you can afford any brand new iPhone, you are not broke, probably have a decent paying job (not necessarily high pay).
iPhones, even the cheapest SE 2020 are generally quite expensive. Broke people or those with very low income will go for budget to midrange android phones. Even if they want to flex with apple brand they usually will go for older or used iPhone models.
You might wanna say that this 12 mini might not sell very well probably because of expensive price tag, the pandemic, people are jobless... etc. But judging from their past sales they are doing quite well.
Rather all of us wasting energy on predicting whether this phone will sell /not sell. Let's just wait and see shall we?

We can be with 4G instead. To be precise, 5G is not required for a mobile network. A GENUINE 4G LTE network is more than sufficient. But, most of today's 4G networks are not given full throttle, which makes everyone feel its insufficiency. 5G networks are feasible when it is used with external power supply. For battery operated devices it is not feasible. God can't save our world. We have to assume responsibilities to save it.

The more reasonable and imo sensible sub-6ghz 5G though? Theoretically the power consumption of that could get reduced down to near 4G levels due to it being a similar frequency range but with newer and more efficient techniques applied to it, maybe even more efficient than 4G at the same speed if higher speeds isn't a priority, I'm not sure.

There will not be any battery drain issues with iPhone 12 lineups until it is not connected to a 5G network. Whatever be the case, 5G would require more power than 4G. I doubt whether it would be practically possible even tomorrow to develop power friendly 5G chips, since technology has attained its limit. Let's see.

joe nodden, 19 Oct 2020Lmao do you seriously think over $900 is cheap or something... moreThe market has already proven the SE 2020 a resounding success, all the arguments made against the SE 2020 have proven to be irrelevant to actual buyers because the market segment consists of light users wanting a comfortable to use, light and small phone that has top notch build and overall quality and operates flawlessly, specs, bezels and such: IRRELEVANT. You would be a disastrous failure in a marketing department sorry to tell you.

The Surface Duo is a great example of this - criticised for its low battery mAh on announcement but still lasted surprisingly longer than people expected when it actually got in the hands of reviewers and customers.

Apple's claiming to only enable 5G functionality when they think it would be genuinely useful, rather than having the 5G modem on constantly like has been done in the past. Theoretically this should help negate the hit on battery life but we'll have to wait and see how much that actually helps.

Subramanian CN, 19 Oct 2020If there are takers for iPhone SE 2020, there'll be en... moreThat is exactly apple's reasoning, they launched the SE to test demand for small devices, SE proved there is. Limited as the SE is it saw heavy sales.
The 12 mini is coming out because there is proven demand for the small form factor AND is a state of the art device that improves screen and battery sizes on a 135g device, almost 10% lighter than the SE 2020 and using metal and glass NOT plastic, not only that, the camera module should be heavier too. Pretty impressive.

joe nodden, 19 Oct 2020You unintelligent people still don't get it. How. Why.... moreMy dear intelligent man, whatever be the case Apple products sell. They take advantage of this and are making huge profits. You might not be interested to take this MINI, but others might take this. What can you do if I'm an unintelligent fool. So be it. Thank you. Apple targets those who have deep pockets. What can be done if Apple refuses to provide budget devices. Either you have to take it, or go for Android. Apple will reduce prices only if consumers refuses to accept their products.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2020What massive price tag, the galaxy S10e started at $749 and... moreLmao do you seriously think over $900 is cheap or something? Apple users amirite. No common sense.
And no no no, the people who disliked the SE 2020 were right. A 65.4% screen-to-body ratio in 2020? A single 12 MP camera? A barely above 720p LCD? AN 1821 MAH BATTERY? It's abysmal! Think before you speak. Realize how you sound. The SE is absolute garbage. A dumpster fire.

The SE 2020 was CHEAP. This ISN'T. People bought the SE 2020 because they're BROKE but wanted iPhones. What don't you people understand about that? I literally came up with all you people's main argument before you and disproved it before you even came up with it, yet you STILL try to argue it. I knew Apple users were quite dense but man this is just sad.

As far as pricing is concerned, Apple fans will have to pay for it if they are interested in a small form factor Apple product. Apple always dominates. Moreover, this MINI has a bigger battery than SE.

joe nodden, 19 Oct 2020You don't know what the battery is gonna be like until... moreWhat massive price tag, the galaxy S10e started at $749 and 5G phones have been selling at a premium, besides it's the cheapest iPhone 12, iPhone 11 series started at the same exact price as last year.
As for small phones they were not selling because simply because they were not being made. For many users that had to buy a larger phone, they hated them, no wonder SE 2020 sold like crazy, the phone has nothing going for it other than the SIZE and the reputation for quality. $400 is no bargain whatsoever for a smartphone.
Why don't you quit the fortunetelling business, SE 2020 trashers ended up ridiculed and forgotten.

Any mobile, whether it is Android or iOS, will have poor battery life if connected to a 5G network because, today's 5G chips are power hungry. Some lessons have to be learned the hard way. Though Apple is aware of this fact, they introduced all their iPhone 12 lineups with 5G, just to satisfy consumer's expectations. Though, I am not sure of Apple's 5G chips in particular, I firmly believe that it is also a chip produced by humans and not by GOD. Let's see.

A small form factor mobile can't provide room for bigger batteries, with which it'll fail ultimately if implemented.
