many people around the world bought the iPhone because it sounds cool, luxurious and expensive. Guys, come to think of it. many girls buy the iPhone, but serious guys like businessmen buy other kinds of phone. Majority of the consumers who "loved" the iphone loved it because of the mp3/video player (which is their specialty btw) and fancy applications. sure, it looks cool and "in", but i think thats just abt it.

This is what happens when you try to copy the Iphone and you do not have the immense software know how of Apple :
About 100 readers wrote to say that they had bought the Storm and now regretted it. Some samples:
"I want to thank you for validating the experiences I've had with my new BlackBerry Storm. It has been an absolute nightmare. As soon as I return to New York, I will take advantage of Verizon's 30-day return policy and get rid of this monstrosity."
"I rushed out last week to try the new Storm--and was frustrated, confused and bewildered by the device. I couldn't use the browser, and was even hard pressed to make a phone call."
"My Storm was like something from a Stephen King novel: possessed of its own mind. Touching or selecting on the screen highlighted something totally unrelated. The lag in switching from horizontal to vertical almost made it seem that the screen was deciding its own when to shift."
"One of my co-workers, who is almost militant in his disdain for all things Apple, couldn't wait to get his hands on a Storm. Lo & behold, 30 minutes later, he was trying to figure out a way to get his money back."
"I think there's an important distinction between quality control (whether or not something works as designed) and quality of design. This device fails miserably in both categories."
"Where do I begin? The address book is a joke. Can't go straight to any given letter, so must scroll all the way through every time. Everything's slow: Scrolling, screen rotating, selecting apps, search... everything. It has crashed several times just trying to play movies. When you press the screen, it jumps over and "clicks" the key next to what you wanted... this is maddeningly frustrating. The bottom line: BlackBerry has created the Zune of touchscreen phones."
"Having tried the Storm on two different days to make sure it was really as bad as it seemed the first time, I too find it unbelievable that these are for sale. Verizon should just box all these Storms up and send them to Toys R Us, who can sell them in the Brainteaser section, right next to the Rubik's Cubes."
"Typing is not easy. My fingertips hurt after a few e-mails, not to mention the frustration with many typos. Also, when you are scrolling and you touch the bottom edge of the screen (landscape mode) by accident, the keyboard pops up. It takes so long to do anything. Not worth it."
"The most disappointing piece of equipment I have ever seen. I waited a year to upgrade to Storm from Treo...Now I got a good old BlackBerry 8330 instead, and I am a happy girl!"
"Oh my God! I read your review, and it was the exact same experience I had! I was EXTREMELY disappointed. This thing is a dud. I am very sad, but at least I have my Curve."
"I could not agree with you more about the BlackBerry Storm. I picked it up at my local Verizon store, and after typing an e-mail on the full keyboard (which took 3 full seconds to appear when I went to landscape mode), and seeing the delayed key response and multiple errors, I just put it down and walked away. If it can't do e-mail well, the rest is irrelevant. I will wait for the BlackBerry 'Silver Lining': a Storm interface and a true BlackBerry keyboard."
Not all readers agreed with me, however. About a dozen new Storm owners wrote to say that, while they, too, found some bugs and sluggishness, they liked the phone nonetheless.
But I also heard from about a dozen people who have not tried the Storm, but nonetheless poured on me the Internet equivalent of molten lead:
"Having you comment on technology is like having Tom Cruise comment on religion. You stretch and distort facts to fit your opinions. Your biases are obvious to any objective person."
"I have serious doubts about your ability to evaluate tech. And your friends, for that matter. Yes, the Storm has a different emphasis than past BlackBerries, but it will continue to sell like pancakes."
"Your article is a shameful report from someone who obviously is not knowledgeable in any of these newer items. Perhaps you should find something else to write about; although from this article you probably wouldn't do well in any area. Shame on you and on THE NEW YORK TIMES FOR SUCH INFERIOR REPORTING."
"For those of us with no need to speed type, the Storm is a great phone. In an economy like this, the world can do without ignorantly people more concerned with their own egos ripping apart an innovative and well conceived product. May the Devil find out you're dead immediately after you're gone."
Well!

copy/paste, MMS, video recording, backgrounding, and other that the almost boring design,i resolved already with the jailbroken firmware. so u don`t really have to wait nomore for apple to come with this.
all your other features,i agree..i really wanted to see a 5mp camera with autofocus on it,sience this is THE phone,as they used to say.and the 3G front camere, there is no doubt that thing is missing.
apple will build new firmwares for THAT iphone.unlikely,nokia,se,htc,samsung,etc. will built new handsets if they have more than 2 upgrates to a firmware, and let`s not forget that the apple firmware will remain free for upgrates unless the company will go down one day because aliens came and took over it.

I have to say that I am fairly pleased with my iPhone so far. It is far easier to use than any of the other phones / devices I have tried so far and I have to say that apple hit the nail on the head with this one. Here's why
1 - It makes and receives calls.
2 - It plays my music and videos for me.
3 - It provides a solid web browsing experience.
4 - Decent Email functionality
5 - Camera is integrated into facebook (really the only place I would put pictures from a cell phone)
6 - Pandora radio
7 - An army of people writing useful and useless apps
8 - podcasts
9 - Easy and intuitive to use
10 - maps and GPS location
11 - Skype on my Iphone via fring for free
12 - A plethora of accessories
There's more but for me these were some of the big ones.
Now no phone / device is perfect so here's what I would like to see in future updates of the phone / firmware.
1 - Copy and Paste
2 - Insert / Attach caller information to sms
3 - mms - (can't say I have ever really used this feature any way but it would be a nice option)
4 - A better integration of the GPS / Google Maps feature, I have had a few issues with the mapping sending me to the wrong address.
5 - Text to speech for the GPS directions.
6 - Over the air calender syncing (there's a free service for this but why not make it native and give the option of running it through google calendar?)
7 - Add flash support to the browser (seriously not everything flash is an advertisement)
8 - Enable more apps to run in the background like Pandora
9 - Add a video call camera to the front
10/11/12 - (this would probably only be useful to me so this doesn't really count) 40gig of memory minimum, usb host capability and camera raw support - I would really like to be able to just back up and view my photos from my dslr while I am traveling, then I can get rid of my epson photoviewer (I shoot camera raw for hdr).
Sure I would love to have a Nokia N97 or other such device with better specs but here's the problem. I live in the US and am not willing to pay $600-$800 for a phone. Also it has been my experience that the UI's from other companies are not as easy or enjoyable to use nor are they as easily expandable.
So if some GSM carrier in the US will pick up the N97 I will definitely consider switching from the iPhone and maybe even carriers.
For those of you who would like to suggest a windows mobile based device or blackberry, that's fine for you, but I prefer my phone to be functional for personal use as well as business and I am sick of Windows problems and bloatware. I conduct serious business on my laptop, take serious pictures with my dslrs and use a dedicated gps to travel long distances.
If someone comes out with a decently built device that is as easy to use and ubiquitous as the iPhone for $300 I will switch, until then I will make due with my iPhone.

I don't understand why people continue to bad-mouth the iPhone.
By now everyone knows it has no Bluetooth or MMS so why complain about it constantly? if lacking these 2 features is such a big deal for you then go buy something else.
As for the people who actually bought it, then complained it has no MMS or Bluetooth shouldn't you have figured that out BEFORE you purchased it? It is very naive to purchase something without knowing what it is capable of. If you purchased something without doing your research you have no right to complain about your bad decision.

Anonymous, 04 Dec 2008apple can't compete its iphone to nokia's n97..come to thin... moreThe iPhone already has 10,000 applications available from the App store.
How long will it take Symbian developers to port applications across to Nokia's new touchscreen platform?
How many will bother, especially as a lot of people just used pirated versions.
Developers of iPhone applications know they will get paid, website's that advertise them also get paid, that's why there has been an explosion of them.
