Why aren't people lining up to buy them, it's even better than what you say the iPhone needs.
The camera isn't that important in relation to the whole experience of owning and using a phone.

Mr Jobs, when will you be able to put a 5 or 8 mpix camera and a nice xenon flash in your iPhone ? That will make your iPhone storms the world beyond your imagination. You did well in the Apps and the touch screen, now pls do something on your imaging hardware..... fire all your guys who failed to deliver what others are already doing.....

There are tons of apps that are better than FM, not to mention internet. Well I understand for those who cannot afford a data plan on how important FM to them is, lol. That's probably all they do all day. And how is an LED flash be more useful than all the apps that's offered by the iphone? We're taking pictures and posting them in Facebook and Twitter w/out flash just fine. Matter of fact, it's the iphone that has the most uploaded photos on the internet. You didn't know that? lol. And how is divx support be that useful on a phone? Well I guess if you do not own a bluray player and big screen HDTV at home, then I guess I understand, lol. You obviously have no clue as to how useful the apps from the App Store are. There so many useful apps from the iphone. Some can even save lives. Did you read the news about that Haiti earthquake victim who used his iphone app to save his life? Can your camera or divx do that? lol.
Also, the iphone is a great phone not just because of its apps, but because of it's quality, speed, storage, music player, internet, UI and OS.

I just sold my iphone 3gs only after 2 weeks. i whas loyal to apple from the start. this is what happended:
ihpone 2g whas nice, revolutionary, bought it... when nokia fans had 5mp, gps, 3g, i was stuck with, what it seemed from it's specs, a 2 year old phone..
when 3g came out, wow... it had GPS but no other navigation software. google maps it's not that great...
when i bought 3gs i thought this is it, it's a 3rd gen it should work.. F@#$, it just has a 3MP camera now and faster cpu, so games load faster. and now there are roumers about the 4th gen? let me guess: 5MP camera and some extra ram...
in 2009 apple whas braging with their new phone: look 3mp, video and copy paste... WOW. for this amount of money, i should have bought n97, satio, omnia HD, phones that have everything.
selling my iphone 3gs, i got enouph money to buy myself an used e71 (perfect condition) and a ps3. life is so much better now...

I use my iphone for email, LOTS of web, calling, LOTS of text, LOTS of music, movies etc., and games too. The simple interface makes getting to what I want to use as easy as it could possibly be on any mobile device. Who would want to spend more time getting to what they want to use?
I can understand limitations in customization and file managers and bluetooth transfer and whatnot, but I used to have a symbian phone and I used bluetooth transfer maybe 3 times in a year. Filemanager was annoying as hell because I would always have to go rummaging through to find stuff I downloaded or installed. The iphone OS is completely logical in it's execution, and it would take a truly amazing phone to make me drop the iphone. '
BTW, if camera flash is more important to you than 1000's of apps, then a simple point and shoot camera could replace your phone, it seems. Just go buy a camera and brag to people about how it has flash, and "who needs 1000's of apps when my camera has FLASH!!"
