There are tons of apps that are better than FM, not to mention internet. Well I understand for those who cannot afford a data plan on how important FM to them is, lol. That's probably all they do all day. And how is an LED flash be more useful than all the apps that's offered by the iphone? We're taking pictures and posting them in Facebook and Twitter w/out flash just fine. Matter of fact, it's the iphone that has the most uploaded photos on the internet. You didn't know that? lol. And how is divx support be that useful on a phone? Well I guess if you do not own a bluray player and big screen HDTV at home, then I guess I understand, lol. You obviously have no clue as to how useful the apps from the App Store are. There so many useful apps from the iphone. Some can even save lives. Did you read the news about that Haiti earthquake victim who used his iphone app to save his life? Can your camera or divx do that? lol.

Also, the iphone is a great phone not just because of its apps, but because of it's quality, speed, storage, music player, internet, UI and OS.

LOL Anonymous you have contridicted yourself my friend.

Firstly I have to emphasise again that I think the iPhone is a great phone, no doubt. I like it and have used it. But unfortunately it is missing key features, which it "makes up" with Apps. Now you mention the points about HD TV and Camera, well I have donated clothes to charity which helps people such as people in Haiti. I dont need an iPhone to domnate to a good cause, there are about a thousand other ways to do this! 2nd, you mention about Twitter and Facebook etc...I can have a laptop or a PC for this! 3rd, so many apps but how many are you actually gonna use as an essential feature??? I can buy books if I wanted to read books, I can buy a compass if I wanted a compass, I can buy anything as an app on the iPhone...catch my drift? Apps are a novelty and yes some are fantastic, but if im gonna fork out £70 or so on a TomTom app, id rather just buy an actual SatNav!!

Last point, the radio. Run a poll and see how many people would like to see this feature (not just in an Apple forum but in a general mobile forum) and im pretty sure many people will ask for this as a feature. I would rather use a free FM transmitter than via the mobile Internet! At least with the FM transmitter, it will pick up local stations without the need of a network signal.

My point mainly is people will use Apps, its great, but as a mobile device in general the iPhone needs to improve if it wants to be known as the best phone out there.

but in terms of battery life, surely just having an FM radio is much more efficient? the iphone's battery is bad enough as it is.

            Quote from tZ4m:
"apple will never wake up, they are bestselling bcos its CEO is the world best brainwasher ever..."

Instead of attacking me with your unfounded and snide remarks, I suggest you recognize that people are free to purchase whatever cell phone their hearts desire. I'm certainly no hypnotist, although if I was, it was would save me billions of dollars in advertising - only if.

I'm not thrusting the iPhone down anyone's throat - if one decides to purchase one then I'd admire your good taste in the finer things of life. If however one does not purchase an iPhone, then no problem, it will only strengthen my resolve to ensure we at Apple produce an even more tantalizing cell phone that would be hard to resist.

Perhaps I'll convert your apparent deep-seated hatred of the iPhone on the forthcoming release of the next generation of iPhones.

You will be surprised what we at Apple have in store for our Apple followers in 2010.

[IMHO, my good friend, formerly at Microsoft, Bill Gates, has been a hate figure for many, because of his business acumen and dedication in making Windows the OS of choice by 95% of all PCs in The World. Wouldn't you say he's the best brainwasher of all time ?]

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2010No it won't, here is what the real Steve Jobs had to say ab... moreLook, I was correct to state that the best pointing device in the world is our finger, however, touchscreen displays are by no means revolutionary. Touch screen have found there way in VDUs (visual display units) that are deployed as kiosks in railway stations, airports, POS (point-of-sale) terminals, etc, for many years.

Touch screen is not a novel technology, its been around for 35 years or so. But what should be understood as to the increasingly prevalent use of touch screen tech, is the fact that various patents that license the usage of touch screens have in most part expired, and so touch screen can be used in the billions of cell phones without the need for payment of royalties.

What we at Apple have done, was to keep an eye on the expiration of such patents, and consequently heralded the iPhone as a revolutionary product.

In actual fact its no big deal, but with several factors that count in our favor, particularly, the increasing momentum we have gathered over the last 10 years or so, with exciting products that 'break the mould' with the typical 'run of the mill' consumer electronic products, such as our iMac, iPod, Mac OS X, we have proven our credibility in producing high-quality, highly desirable, and highly unique products, that make the mundane (such as a boring old phone) look enticing once again.

That's why, IMHO, people look towards Apple as a company that can innovate and set a trend for others to follow. I'll be the first to say that I'm very flattered. It's the ongoing ideas in evolution that shall keep us developing even better products in the future.

As many here have pointed out, the iPhone would fair pretty poorly if specification and technical merit were taken on board. For example, the first iPhone had EDGE, but no 3G, when phones in mid-2007 had 3G. So why has the iPhone been so successful, despite it being poor in the spec department ? Were we lucky ? Is Divine intervention aiding us, and not the other manufacturers ? Well Divine intervention is important, but for many of you, such idea wouldn't 'wash'. It's down to the expectation that we're going to produce something amazing, such as the use of touchscreen and the very successful App Store. The App Store makes the iPhone whatever you want it to be (almost). Got an idea for an App ? Well get developing and have it showcased to the World on the App Store.

Even my beloved friend, Steve, no not myself but the other Steve at Microsoft - Steve Ballmer, has recently embraced the idea of a 'Microsoft App Store' called Windows Mobile Marketplace. Considering Microsoft have been in the mobile arena a lot longer than us, it's bewildering to me why Bill Gates never thought of it before. They failed to seize upon the opportunity to seal the mobile OS market to themselves, but instead concentrated in anti-competitive measures to stifle others. It backfired on them, and Microsoft are losing the war on the browser side, cell phone OS, internet search. They devoted all their efforts on office applications, and applications for the corporate client. I'm not even going to discuss Vista.

So yes, the iPhone sux bad on the specifications, but you know what, specs aren't the be-all and end-all. More important is usability and ease of use so even my granny can use.

We at Apple, and particularly I, drive this message to our development team, and you, the paying consumers, vote with your feet when you by an Apple product, to say that we got it right.

Just wait for the iPhone 4G - it gonna kick some a$$.

Windows Mobile 7 - whenever you're ready, possibly this decade - we not afraid of vaporware (especially from Microsoft).

Android - What a daft name. Google should have got their marketing execs to come up with an exciting punchy name, than to stick with the name of a small startup company that Google acquired. (Similarly applies to the name Vista - what the hell did the guys at Microsoft eat/drink to concoct such a name ?)

                Future insights:
We're going to be aiming the iPhone 4G for businesses, just as much for the ordinary consumer. I personally want the iPhone to sweep up the entire mobile market within the next 5 years.

                Only time will tell.

                P.S:
If you doubt the authenticity of me being Steve Jobs, then you had better re-read my post again.

steve jobs, 23 Jan 2010i, as a apple CEO never think of using iphone bcos it is qu... moreNo it won't, here is what the real Steve Jobs had to say about using phone's with sticks.

At the iPhone's introduction, Steve Jobs boldly announced that stylus-driven interfaces that Microsoft's Gates had hailed just a half decade earlier were no longer worth investigating. "Now, how are we going to communicate this?" Jobs said of the iPhone. "We don't want to carry around a mouse, right? So what are we going to do? Oh, a stylus, right? We're going to use a stylus. No. Who wants a stylus? You have to get em and put em away, and you lose em. Yuck. Nobody wants a stylus. So let's not use a stylus."

We're going to use the best pointing device in the world. We're going to use a pointing device that we're all born with -- born with ten of them. We're going to use our fingers. We're going to touch this with our fingers. And we have invented a new technology called multi-touch, which is phenomenal. It works like magic. You don't need a stylus. It's far more accurate than any touch display that's ever been shipped. It ignores unintended touches, it's super-smart. You can do multi-finger gestures on it. And boy, have we patented it."

So we have been very lucky to have brought a few revolutionary user interfaces to the market in our time. First was the mouse. The second was the click wheel. And now, we're going to bring multi-touch to the market. And each of these revolutionary interfaces has made possible a revolutionary product: the Mac, the iPod and now the iPhone."

Hi everyone, It's really amazing how much negetive comments this phone has, and it is a bestseller. To those who are complaining about what this phone does not have don't you actually look at the phone's specifications before buying it. You knew that the phone has only 3mp of camera but you went ahead and bought it now you complain about it, please... Know what you want from a mobile phone before you buy one, do your research. That's what GSMARENA is there for. If you are a business orientated person a mobile like SE X2 or N97 will let you live your laptop behind but if you are a person with too much free time then an Iphone 3gs or SE W995 will entertain you good and let you live your psp and ipod behind. All these mobile phone are good depending on what you want from them. If you got a phone that does not do what you want, then you chose the wrong phone. Don't dare blame it on the phone cause you made the wrong choice. Post real comments and reviews not stupidity...( Sorry no offence meant)
