The best advice I can give is go to a store and try using various phones.
Make up a list of which features are important to YOU and which features YOU can live without.
Compare your list with what's on offer.
Did I mention go to a store and try the phones out, ask to try a friends one, whatever ultimately it's a personal decision and you won't get as much from an Internet forum.

Well kind of free, only paying for a data connection. The voice guidance is what you pay for, which I don't need. I have exceptional navigating skills pre installed in my brain.

This guy doesn't like it so he isn't going to buy it. Now he is sharing his reasons with everyone here. Over and over again. You must be happy with snapping shots with the camera all night and videocalling all day.

It's only $8 a month for Vodafone compass or you can get a day pass for $2.50 for casual use.

I am well aware of all the cheap and free apps, as I did have an iPhone for over a year. A jailbroken one, I might add, so I rarely paid for apps anyway.

alok uadhyay, 10 Nov 2009its amazing and very dashing looking and i want to purchase... more600MHz ARM 8 with 256MB RAM and PowerVR graphics, it's the equal of any of the latest smartphones, such as the N900 or Samsung 8910 Omnia HD, it's a lot better than older generation phones with ARM 11 processors.

You can only put apps that Apple let ... moreYeah, $1.19 for an App will really break the bank there are lots of free Apps, a good one at the moment is Real Racing GTi made by Firemint (from Australia), Volkswagen got them to make a free version which is limited to six Volkswagen cars and one track, the full version has over 48 cars, the graphics are stunning especially on a 3GS.
There are over 100,000 Apps with developers competing to get noticed, often they will reduce their prices so they get a higher rating in the App store it pays to keep an eye out for bargains.

Just... moreYou bought an iPhone. You can only put apps that Apple let you on there. For Apple to distribute an application that duplicates one of its main features, the developer will have to pay Apple, which means the application will be expensive so Apple get their money and so do the developers.
I am bypassing the possibility of jailbreaking, because I'm sure by now we all know Apple don't like you doing that.
