Hi All,
I am going to buy an iphone 3gs 16gb in India . This is a Factory unlocked model( thats what the seller claims ). Can anyone tell me what do i need to check in the phone to make sure it is factory unlocked and not jailbroken . i cannot connect the phone to itunes cause that isnt allowed by the seller so here is a list of things i am going to check please let me know if there is anything else i need to do.
1) check the software version . if it 3.1.2 then its good to go cause jailbroken phones have 3.0 version right?
2) checking the base band and firmware. how do i do this ? is firmware version different from os version ?
and what is the latest frimware and baseband version?
3) making a phone call with a couple of sim cards as an factory unlocked should accept any card right ?
4) Some websites mention that officially factory unlocked ones do not have " a nts logo" at the back . it this true and what does nts stand for ?
5) checking the part number..one website says that honkkong unlocked iphones have part numbers starting with MB is it true.. I've seen fac.unlocked iphone with part no. starting from MC so how do i check this.
Anything else that i need to check ?
please help cause i'll be spending a lot of money on this..

i used to be against "Iphone" because of all those things that people saying here .. yea yea no multiple tasking , bad battery and list could go on .... anyways i got a Nokia E71 and had it for a year and i juts loved it. i could never think of switching to other platforms except symbians .. but i got my hand on iphone 3gs on At&t store and i was like no way!! i got a get this. its been over 2 months that i own this phone and i cannot be happier . now i can actually "use" the internet on my phone. web browsing is amazing and yes i jailbreake it and i can do any task and i used to do on my Nokia phone but much better !!! i love this phone !

MM, i just LOVE it when i see a bunch of skeptics saying how bad the iphone is. It really makes my day because then people will read it, and actually believe it, and there will be less iPhone owners, and it will make those of us who do it have it a bit more rare. Now lets face reality... I had an n95 from august 2007 to july 2009. I got the 3GS in september. Simply put, BEST. PHONE. EVER.
Where do i begin. Without the jailbreak, its a lost cause. These ignorant people that say it sucks are just people who really have never laid their hands on an iphone and really dont know a thing they are saying... they just read the specifications and initiate the bashing.
First of all, the processor and ram is as high if not higher than any mobile phone ON GSM ARENA AT THE MOMENT.
Second of all, the argument that states the lack of multitask is flawed, as jailbreaking your device enables you to multitask and do much more than that.
Third of all, Bring the ovi store, bring the android store or whatever... put them all together... they will never match up to the APP STORE. And guess what. With a jailbroken device, its all...FREE.
Now as a former iphone basher myself, having had an n95 and wanting to back up my reason for paying 850$ for it, i never wanted to accept the fact that this phone that you can get from your carrier (3G) for as little as 80$, could be superior to my phone that i paid so much for. I would come with the same arguments over and over. Cheap camera, no video, no bluetooth sending data, no multitask. iPhone 3GS has a 3.2mp camera with touch to focus, 30fps recording better than the nokia's, you can transfer pics through bluetooth to other iphones, and the multitask has already been mentionned.
Now for all you skeptics that STILL dont wanna understand, please, go on spreading the rumors that the iPhone sucks, i appreciate it, it helps me sleep better at night.

I must say, I've tried so many phones out there, and so far, the best of the best of all phones was the iPhone. I'm serious, it hasn't disappointed in anything at all.
People who say that it sucks probably haven't tried it, or haven't tried all of it. This phone can do so much more than people think:
- The App Store
- add to that the Jailbreaking which makes it as good as a PC
- the multi-touch, accelerometer and compass which make it an everyday's tool
- the durability (you'll understand when you watch the iPhone 3G torture test on youtube)
- the amazing updates that come every now and then which never fail to amaze
So for those of you who do own an iPhone but didn't like it, at least try to explore more of what it can do.

Did you back up My Documents?
All your iPhone back ups are in the Applications data folder.
You can download Apps you've purchased again for free using the same iTunes account.
