Asus confirms the ROG Ally will launch globally

Victor, 15 April 2023

Earlier this month, Asus unveiled its ROG Ally handheld Windows gaming device. It caused quite a stir in the gaming realm, even though we are yet to learn all of the details regarding its specs and capabilities.

Asus is now successfully keeping the hype train going by announcing that the Ally will see a worldwide release and that said release might happen sooner than expected. Color us enthused!

Unfortunately, that’s all the information contained within the tweet, and we are still just left with crumbs of data regarding the specs of the ROG Ally to go by. As early reports and previews show, the ROG Ally is rocking a 7-inch, 1080p, 120Hz display. At its core is some sort of custom AMD Zen4 and RDNA3 CPU + GPU solution. Something potentially akin to the Ryzen 7040U, though that might just be speculation. As stated by Linus from Linus Tech Tips, the custom silicon inside the Ally can allegedly deliver up to twice the performance of the Valve Steam Deck at the same 35W power envelope and should be able to produce 50% better frame rates in 15W power mode.

As far as other unofficial specs of the ROG Ally go, we know that it measures 28.0 x 11.3 x 3.9cm and weighs in at 608 grams, which is lighter and more compact than the Steam Deck. And we know that the Ally runs Windows 11 with some custom ASUS software overlays on top.

With international availability now promised by Asus, the most important bit about the Ally is arguably its price. That will ultimately make or break the handheld, especially now that Valve finally has a steady supply of its highly-competitive Steam Deck with a starting MSRP of just $399.

Thanks for this btw!

No, I'm right lol. 70% when idle, for that one I'm talking about, it's always 99%-100%.
