On this weekend I played around with my death Nexus 7. Last time it's lag pretty bad with lollipop and charging doesn't went well. Now it's brought back to life.

I re-soldered the 2 of micro USB pins to GPIO (POGO connector on the side) and connect using small cables. Basically it's will charge to the POGO pin via micro USB connector. And wow, it's charge pretty much speedy. Let's say around 2 hours from 0%-90% (thanks to XDA Forum for the tips, DIWYOR).

For the OS, I downgraded from Lollipop to SlimKat; the sluggish thing is now gone. It's still incomparable with latest devices, but it's works pretty well.

Make it less laggy by downloading and using arrow launcher instead of the default launcher

One of my half-a-dozen short-lived Android devices. The Nexus upgrade to 5.x was a total disaster and rolling back to 4.x was a nightmare. Well, this deviced DID get one proper upgrade before going useless. Samsung Tab 4 never got one single upgrade and probably never will. HTC and Sony only got one and are still in 2.x. Never again ANY Androids. Period.

downgraded to kitkat and it works fast and fine. dont need to upgrade the os. the point was to buy a nexus to ensure OS upgrade compatibility but i was told the HW could not carry over to the next OS ergo they made the 2013 version or 2nd gen nexus 7 with beefier specs.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2017You paid that amount for the first generation Nexus, sorry ... moreEver since I upgraded to Marshmallow, this tab has been giving me headaches. A very annoying lag when selecting an app, battery life greatly reduced, charging time greatly increased. Finally I reverted to back Kit Kat, and the tab is behaving beautifully again.

However, now I had this annoying reminder that there was an update, that I didn't want, and I couldn't find out how to make it go away. So, I installed Slimkat 4.44 Rom, and so now my Nexus 7 2012 and I are happy for the immediate future again.

Four years old, away from home use for about 4 months per year. Frequent poor performance. Recently unable to switch on when fully charged and now seems will not charge or switch on. Tried lots of on line advice to no good effect. In my opinion a waste of £189. So much for all the marvellous things said when it was launched.

Hello Petkovic, screen can be found on aliexpress, just be sure what is the correct name of the model, because the placement of the screws. Separation of touchscreen from LCD and frame is very hard, so I advise you to look for replacement for whole front (LCD+digitizer+front frame).
