Asus reportedly wants to double its smartphone sales this year
Asus wants to make a big splash in the mobile world this year, according to a Chinese-language Apple Daily report, citing company CEO Jerry Shen. While Asus shipped around 20 million smartphones in 2016, its goal for 2017 is to move 35-40 million units.
If the 40 million phones shipped best case scenario becomes reality, then Asus will effectively have doubled its sales year-on-year, which would be an amazing feat. Obviously though, 2017 is just starting and there's no way to be sure which way this will go.
The company has already unveiled a trio of handsets that should help it achieve its lofty sales goals - the AR and VR capable Zenfone AR, the Zenfone 3 Zoom with dual rear cameras, and the Pegasus 3S for the budget-conscious. Moreover, the Zenfone 4 family of devices is coming in the second quarter (so at some point between April and June), and these too ought to boost Asus' profile.
On the other hand, competitors aren't going to be sitting idly by, so it will be interesting to see if Asus actually manages to reach its self-imposed sales target.
