this garbage, only the phone is sold with 1185 euro here
now the phone + that small cooler is sold with 1518.
the difference of 333 euro is only for that cooler you attach on the back of the phone
imagine being such a fan for this brand to pay 333 euro for a pos plastic small cooler

I really like this phone, but I'm going to wait for the next one. I'm hoping they bring more colors to the back glass other than just plain boring black. If they have white, blue or red back glass with the black edge, it would look amazing. I am also waiting for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 made with the new TSMC 3nm.

Headphone audio is fantastic. Wish they put the same circuits on the Zenfone 11/12. Now that would warrant an upgrade imho.

DeonSJ, 11 Mar 2024Can u let me know whether all the banking apps works perfec... moreI cant emphasize enough that the global rom flashed CN set works mirror like to the global version, except for the manual firmware updates. For the haters and global version consumers fanboys who are ever so afraid of getting out of comfort zone, let me burst your bubble. Here is a convo with the chinese/taiwanese dude that was able to flash Global Rom for us all. Let me enlighten those haters:
QUESTION:
I've read all about how graymarket re-sellers manage to take Chinesese version of Rog Phone, a version that was never intended to be sold outside of China, re-flash it with officially not supported Global Rom and sell that, so the poor suckers who buy that get stuck without any support and updates from Asus.
Does that still stands for ROG Phone 8? If one would buy a ROG Phone 8 Tencent Global Rom version they would be stuck without any support and updates?
Why is it then that "ROG Official Store" on AliExpress is selling ROG Phone 8 Tencent Global Rom?
Answer:
1) ROG Official Store on Aliexpress are doing the flashing of Global Rom
2) The Convo:
As for the differences between the tencent band version and the global version. The seller says that from a technical point of view they are identical, the restriction is PROGRAMMATIC in nature, and if you buy the tencent version stitched with the global version, then these RESTRICTIONS will be LIFTED and all ranges will be available.
The buyer's question, the quote was translated with the help of a translator: "The official ASUS website says that the Chinese version of the smartphone does not have band 20 support, but you say that it does. How is it?"
The seller's response, the quote translated with the help of a translator: Yes, the Chinese version has software restrictions and a neutered Band 20. In fact, the Chinese version and the global version are the same in hardware. The hardware supports Band 20. Moreover, we have updated the system to the global firmware Version WW, so the updated version of Tencent already supports Band. 3 / 7 / 20"
With this answer above, tencent or global variant both are of similar hardware components (except for regions receiving 5mp macro lens) and restrictions are programmable, we can safely conclude, the moment global rom is flashed on CN set, that phone is as good as global on a cheaper price tag. Warranty is still valid, on my end at least, no trouble registering my product for 1 year warranty. Updates are easily made available on official websites and group chats in telegram etc to be downloaded

lol the people complaining about the res and ppi are clearly console gamers, id rather lower resolution with maxed out settings and high fps than high resolution with minimum settings and low fps.
there's a reason why the rog phone 3 still outperforms higher resolution phones using the same soc to this day and the same story will happen in 5 years. Watch the rog phone 8 outperform your higher resolution phones using sd8g3.

Big Louie, 28 Feb 20241080 x 2400 pixels and 388 pixel density is what's fou... moreCouldn't agree more. All these gaming phones are garbage. The only one to ever do it right was the xiomi black shark 3 pro . 7.1 with ACTUAL buttons and 488 ppi .....AND A HEADPHONE JACK...GOD TIER. but xiomi has ran that line into the ground imagine a XIOMI BLACK SHARK 8 PRO then give it the Sony Xperia 1 Mach 5s 634 ppi screen at 7.1 inches with a headphone jack and a snapdragon 8 Gen 3......OOOOHHHH WEEE DAMMMM TALK ABOUT SPLOOOSH.....ID GIVE MY LEFT _______ FOR SUCH A DEVICE ....... literally couldn't get any better. These companies say that smartphone innovation is dead yet they take away some of the features that are an absolute necessity......headphone jack , expandable storage quality displays......I don't get it. You want to make more money add the price of the headphone dongle to the devices price , shut down your cloud and add a space for expanding the storage and add the price to the device. .....
Anyone builds the above mentioned phone I'll give you 2000$ for it.
7.1 wqhd + screen with 634 ppi
Headphone jack
Actual trigger buttons.....( or the volume rockers split to each end of the side and can double as triggers)
Wifi 7 capability and the best possible 5g/4g antenna

It is still faulty product. Cheaper yes, but lack of some features for worldwide users. Lacks warranty and in case of problems must be send to China for repair. For me it is scam and worthless device.

1080 x 2400 pixels and 388 pixel density is what's found on sub $300 phones. This phone is grossly overpriced.

Kevin, 22 Feb 2024Your money, your decision. I'd rather buy from officia... moreThank you sir. Same goes. I respect your opinion too. Im not an advocate of global rom flashed phones. But from history, China,HK,Taiwan tech phones tend to have the superior version and releases a watered down, inferior global versions. My posts in gsmarena are mostly on huawei mate 20x (yes the opinions are still very much alive for a phone released in 2018) i am typing on my mate 20x 8gb ram 256gb rom (CN flashed global rom) sold my vanilla 6gb ram 128gb global version because the chinese seems to be given the more "maxed" out version per say. And been using that 7.2" behemoth up till now. No problems with motherboard.
I bought an oppo find x 6 pro (released in china only) and sure as hell live up to its reputation of being top 5 in dxomark. Oh and theres my global version asus rog phone 5s pro, that global version, the air triggers and motherboard failed within months of purchase. Thank goodness i was able to sell it off to someone willing to repair that junk. So story short. Ive got not issues with CN version or CN set global rom flashed. Lucky? Maybe, 3 phones so far and none gave me headaches and are cheaper while being superior. And ive never bought phones from Aliexpress. Wouldnt know how theyd turn out. Got mine from reputable online company dealing with phones only. Personally requestes them to flash global rom for my rog 8 pro purchase. Just my 2 cents =)

Samsung should start putting 512GB default on their Ultra (and maybe Plus) models next year, especially with the amount of money you're paying for.

Kevin, 21 Feb 2024Unfortunately you participated in the Chinese scam. Tencent... moreYippie yay!! Thank you "Chinese Scam" This is unfortunate indeed. Usually people got scammed of their money but i got scammed to save more money instead =D
before purchasing i knew what a "china mainland only" phone feels like. Oppo find x 6 pro for example, only meant for china mainland use, other than chinese bloatwares (which can be easily deleted), firmware updates are as easy as 1,2,3 done manually and works like a charm. Much better than the "Global" version phones out there (dont be easily swayed by media, western ones especially)
Got my phone's airway bill. Started off from china, then transited in taiwan (Asus is Taiwan based). Was told the guys in taiwan will have to open the box to flash the global rom and repacked to send to my country. Chinese scam or taiwanese scam?
Anyways dont worry bout me, i saved additional USD400 in my pockets, the phone rocks like the global version (my friend has a global one cant tell the difference except for the logo at the back). Manual updates are easy to do. Lack of network bands are almost zero to none in my country. Repair shops here are more than ready to assist as most of them do flashing of roms too. Was even able to register asus warranty in the website. So all corners covered on my end and usd400 to buy another phone. Hehehe =P

Tencent versions of ROG Phone 8 are limited and intended for China mainland only. They lack some network bands and OTA software upgrade. There will be also problem with repairing in service - some workshops refuse to repair Chinese origin phones.

AimeDuSable, 19 Feb 2024Avoid trying to remove the buttons with a razor blade and y... moreThank you for the advice but it's more of a principle of the matter, if anything. There have been situations where buttons on phones can fall out by accident (whether it be dropped or something else), and that's not really a problem since you can usually put them back in and not have to worry about it. Not with this particular phone though, if the buttons fall out (which doesn't seem that hard to do), you can't even put them back in properly. It's toast.
That shows a real and genuine design flaw that I honestly couldn't believe they messed up with, but it's true, they really did mess up that badly on the design of the buttons. I don't think I've ever come across any other phone that has this stupid design flaw, the ROG 8 Pro is by in and by far the first one I've seen.
