this phone is ALMOST perfect, but the lack of security updates from Asus makes this phone a no-go
EDIT: apparently Asus promises 4 years of security updates, which is... okay. i would have liked to see 5, but it is what it is

NeverPayOver1000eur, 27 Nov 2023I don't know what is wrong with Asus. My Mum is still ... moreThis is complete nonesense.
The reason they abandoned the flip line and create compact flagships is because people DO care more about this type of phone. They have the numbers.
The camera of the 7 Flip wasn't bad, but it's barely comparable to todays camera phones. Even this phone easily beats it in terms of quality (except for selfies).
New Zenfones are much better in terms of usability as well. Water resistant, compact, good grip, better performance etc.
Liked the flip camera too, but these phones are just more popular and fill a much bigger niche. So "no one cares" fits more towards flip cameras.

NeverPayOver1000eur, 27 Nov 2023I don't know what is wrong with Asus. My Mum is still ... moreSame here. Zenfone 7 has an excellent camera. Also it has a dedicated memory card slot in addition to the double SIM slot.
This model 10 looks like a downgrade rather than a newer model.

About 3 years ago we have purchased for our whole family the Zenfone 7 pro (the one with the flip out single camera). The phone functions excellent and today works flawlessly same as 3 years ago. Battery is still great and holds for a whole day thanks for the "charge only to 90%" function. The camera is very good and most convenient as same quality is both for back and selfie. Overall, first time I come by any smartphone that even after 3 years is as good as new, functions well and still very powerful. Before we had the Xiaomi 7 Ultra. It was a disaster. The mic located too close to the Speaker and very noisy were the conversations. Replaced after 1 year of use.
So still am waiting for ASUS to release the same flip out camera type new phone. When it comes out, will replace our 7pro.

I don't know what is wrong with Asus. My Mum is still using the Zenfone 7 she's had for more than 5 years. The flip camera is still working flawlessly. It still sends insanely sharp and colour accurate 4K video and sports the best selfie video quality of any phone thanks to being able to use the main camera for video.
Yet Asus abandoned this to make mediocre devices like this one which no one cares about. What on earth. It just boggles the mind. The photo and video quality of my Mum's 5 year old Zenfone 7 competes with the Samsung S23 Ultra. Yet Asus are too stupid too make a proper flip camera phone again.

not able to tell the "mm info" of the rear facing U wide lens, and the front facing lens? it gives an impression that this is not carefully made.

We want mor... moreI can understand the headphone jack, microsd slot, one hand use, and unlocked boot loader. Not sure why we feel manufactures should be obligated to provide updates unless due to a security or hardware flaw though. Considering the aspect ratio, the Sony Xperia 5 V seems small but not that I recommend or not recommend it though, i'm still using LG V35.

Ortana, 31 Oct 2023Your logic dosen't even make sense. Phones are large b... moreI am not sure why the heated discussion about small vs. bigger devices. Everybody has their preferences, and honestly it's not about small hands vs. big hands.
Not everybody needs a 7 inch screen to play games on. Or a 200 Mpix camera to take snapshots of their toddlers. Different people have different requirements.
Just because all the "influencers" peddle the helo flagship phone does not mean, that I, me, myself and I want or need one.
I am a outdoor person. I do road biking, yes, 120 miles, 10 hours, rains, snow, sunshine. I do hiking, in winter, at night, full moon preferred. The last thing that I want to lug around is a boat anchor like brick, that falls apart whenever I slip or crash. Am I a minority, yup. Do I have a problem with that, nope.
So if that iPhone 15 MAXX or that Samsung S25 Ultra++ is great for you, all the power to you.
Yeah, I'd love to have this SDCARD slot, because I will not always have reception, and sometimes, I like to listen to music without having access to that cloud. And yes, this 3.5mm connector is quite convenient, if that is all you got in that remote part of your journey. And yes, this outdated fingerprint sensor on the power button is convenient if you are caught out in a downpour, and the in-screen sensor of your flashy device just does not work.

[deleted post]Don't be salty over such a terrible phone that only sells to less than 1 percent of the market. It's not like the ZenFone has anything that makes it impressive aside from the size. The battery is mediocre, the cameras are mediocre and the cooling is basic at best.
