hi guys i purchased zenfone5 from flipkart 2-3 days back all the features are god other than battery......if you will charge the battery upto 100% and will not even use the phone for 5-7 hours it will consume the battery upto 30%-40% ........after every 1 hour you have to charge the phone....its really disgusting ......so i would suggest you not to purchase any Asus zenfone......

I recently successfully upgraded my zenfone 5 to android kit Kat version (4.4.2), it's really proving great ... Thanks to ASUS on this service; Response of phone much better and better battery backup; even better on aesthic ground(s). . .

Suggestion: I wish ASUS enhances its battery mAh to around 2500mAh & maintains its variable thickness (viz. 5.5"-10.3") feature in its design,- which provided the best design concept to provide the perfect grip . . .

It is unfortunately so that due to trying to keep the old data, the system does not update properly, and causes all kinds of troubles that people describe - excessive battery drain, missing keyboard, black screen, problems staying on wifi network, APN settings not saved, etc.

Your instructions replace recovery partition with KitKat, then restore that to primary partition, and the 2 cache wipes are to remove any crap before and after the update.

That fixes the issues unless phone has hardware problems.

Well to as much as it can.

I have suggested the use of Permission manager to limit what the apps can do, which can also extend battery life (in both JB and KK) but you really need to use some logic while playing with it - you don't want to disable location for Maps, or access to microphone to calling app... etc.

Overall still, under KitKat my Zenphones lasts 2 days and none of the issues that are being discussed here happen on my phones.

They are wiped and full KitKat installed, though.

As for the value for money of Zenfone 5... a couple of days ago my maid called me up and asked if I could help her upgrade her Zenfone 5 to KitKat... For someone buying first smartphone (unless expecting Nokia 3210 battery life), Zenfone 5 is a great replacement of a phone and a tablet, that's still pocket sized, with a decent camera, crisp screen, dual SIM, sleek and responsive user interface that you can immediately understand how to use.

I could say it's a poor man's iPhone. But on a second thought - it can do more than iPhone, and doesn't bend. So that comparison would be unfair.

PS: iPhone 6 battery life is no better than Zenfone 5 under similar usage pattern. That was disappointing.

AnonD-210234, 22 Oct 2014So you mean to say..you do it manually? since you downloade... moreSee the posts below by Tomazz for details on how to download and upgrade to kit Kat manually. Also there is a FB group on asus zenfone 5 find posts by vipin arumugham on wiping cache partition and intel deep sleep mode

Pressing and holding Power and volume up key while phone switched off takes you to boot loader menu. Select recovery from there and it takes you to another menu after a restart. Select wipe cache partition from there.

Download kit Kat upgrade 2.19.40.18 of your phone version from asus website. Unzip and copy it to the root folder of your phone. Restart phone and the update notification comes up. Click on it to upgrade the phone.

Backup your contacts, gallery, music etc and go to boot loader menu again by pressing power and vol up keys. Select factory reset. The phone will be wiped clean and reset to state when you purchased it but with kit Kat loaded. Download your apps, games etc from play store again.

Once again do a cache wipe as mentioned above.

Your phone should be fine now. Some Battery drainage is normal for this kind of phone with power hungry intel processor, 2gb ram, 294ppi 5in screen etc etc. You will get used to it. I carry a spare charging cable in my pocket and plug into any laptop/desktop USB whenever I can so charge remains ....
