This is a great phone for its price. Camera is not that bad when you are in a good light condition apparently when capturing a dark area wherein you can't see anything it will give you a huge disappointment. The graphics are great though.

celestina, 01 Sep 2014Hi
In 1 of yr reply to reader you mentioned to resolve pro... moreTo check current firmware, tap Settings, then About (last one) and then System Update (first one).
To update, tap on CHECK UPDATE.
Alternatively, download 1.17.40 from Asus support site or my site (if your phone is having WW firmware), and unzip the file, then plug the phone to your computer and place that unzipped file to your root folder of the phone's internal memory.
Note your phone must be set to MTP. To check, open Settings, then tap on STORAGE, then on the USB logo top right of the screen. Enable MEDIA DEVICE (MTP) and NOT Camera device.
Anyway, once you've copied it, unplug the cable, scroll down notifications (from left top corner scroll down), tap on New update is available, and install it.

As for the screen, don't throw it around and you'll be fine.
If you're concerned, get 9H glass protector for the screen and a power bank.

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2014Hi, m planning to buy this phone but I hav some doubts. Am ... moreAsus is not new in the field. They were making Windows smart phones back in the old days and they were not bad. They manufactured some of the Nexus devices, and their spinoff Pegatron makes half of all the iPhones. They also entered the high end offerings with the Padfone series, which were for most excellent, but very pricy. I am using Padfone Infinity 2, and love it, both the phone and the "tablet" part.
Now like Nokia had to slash costs of the products to meet budgets people are willing to pay, so did Asus. They took the Padfone, and redesigned it so that it can be cheaply produced, replaced some materials and joints, separated parts to be able to reuse them on different models, etc.
Same work was done by Nokia and X series is the lowest cost smartphones family that Nokia is producing.
Nokia was bought off by Microsoft, who openly admitted that X series phones were first and last with Android, and will be retired and replaced with Windows Phone OS. There will be no updates, no access to Google Play store, nothing. But they will "use work done on X series' cost cutting in producing next generation of Windows Mobile phones".
Now Asus will at least support this phone in the future. Nokia, or rather Microsoft will not. This makes Nokia XL like buying Windows XP or Vista now. You just bought it but it's already end of life with no support.
If you are looking for a phone to last a long time, I don't think you wish to pick XL.
On the other hand, I believe both phones are built quite well, and should last several years. But it will be the OS updates that will force you to upgrade to something faster.
Just like on computers… you might still have that computer with Windows 95 and 4 MB RAM, 486 CPU sitting somewhere and it still powers on and works perfectly. You just can't get any program to work on it anymore.
