OK, Android is not (yet) optimised for Atom CPU, so you might get occasional glitches like on scrolling the screen, or on some apps there's a temporary freeze of a second, before it continues.
The What's next keeps crashing. It's wonderful piece of software, just doesn't work.
Battery is built in and replacing it, although not hard, voids warranty as you need to remove inner plate and screws - and one of them has warranty sticker on.
Front cam is nothing to write home about, and back cam is decent, but not excellent. The much touted night mode isn't anywhere near as good as Asus tries to make you believe.
Internal memory is limited but you can easily expand with MicroSD card up to 64 GB. You can set the camera, downloads, music, even apps to use SD card. Class 10 recommended for FullHD video.
HD and SD video camera sucks. FullHD is actually quite good in reasonable light.
The construction quality may be lacking. One of the 2 phones I have has a very tight USB connector (not fault of phone but cable that came with charger in the box), and a very hard to press power button - the other one is perfect on these, but has slightly misaligned camera, a fraction of mm, but still annoying. Although that could be issues of start of production.
The speaker and the inner headphone distort ringing sound pretty badly.
The volume on headphones is not high enough. Should be louder.
The notification light is broken out of the box. You can get a free widget from Motorola to compensate, though.
Voice quality is OK, but not perfect. It also does not filter out background noise well. That said, most other smartphones are no better or even worse.
But worst of all, the power button is too high to press comfortably in single-hand operation, and the 3 sensor buttons below the screen are not illuminated.
That's the disadvantages.
But all that said, it is still a great value for money, and a pleasure to use, despite all of the above. Some of the things may be fixed in firmware and OS updates, some others by improving production process (and may have already been fixed in the phones reaching the shelves now), and some... well, we'll just have to live with. That's the price of a compromise to get it in this price range.

You can't generalise like that - Asus could put whatever combination they consider appropriate for that specific market together. The 16 GB Taiwanese models are 1.6 or 2.0 GHz and have 2 GB RAM and dual SIM with 3G. The European models have 16 or 32 GB RAM and 1.6 or 2.0 GHz Atom and single SIM with LTE modem. But that's just what I've seen for sale. Doesn't mean other combinations don't exist. Given how specs are written on the phone, I am certain they could be anything.

My version is ASUS_T00J(A501CG), it is worldwide version, and below it's written "A501CG,WHITE,WW-3G,D,8GB EMMC+2G RAM,INTEL CLT+Z2560,5/8M WWE-ANDROID,N/A,N/A"
Volume buttons do not wake it up. Only power button does. Although there is some Daydream mode, where you can choose how it behaves when off (like showing a faint clock, and what it reacts to). But that's likely only limited to charging, practically, since it's sure to drain battery otherwise.
And yes, when you make a call, there is REC button on the screen and it makes very high quality recording of the conversation. Note however that some people complained over a bug where their voice wasn't recorded when they had a speakerphone enabled.

Hello Guys!! I request to kindly help me to clear the follwing doubts regarding asus zenfone 5
1. Do asus zenfone 5 support moving apps from phone memory to sd card?? (because my budget is 10000 and i want to buy 8GB internal memory mobile)
2. Can we connect the mobile to laptop or any other system either by usb or cable??
3. How is batter backup?? (I wont play games much but i do use whatsapp and surf alot)
4. Does it support few basic apps like viber, whatsapp, skype?? (sorry to ask such silly question but my friend recently purchased nokia XL and it doesnot support whatsapp, so i want to clear my doubt before i purchase)
5. Can it read MS Office documents (like MS word, MS Powerpoint, MS excel) and pdf files???
6. how is the performance while surfing?? is there any lags??
7. Does it have any service centre in Hyderabad??
Kindly please say me if there are any other problems.

Hi frnds...I want purchase this set but i got one doubt regarding battery, they mentioned in the site battery was notremovable, but some one posted their comment if we want to change our battery those shopkeepers can change our battery with the amount of Rs.500-800 with six months or one year warranty, i want to know one thing we can change our battery or not in the future if have any problem with battery?
So kindly gave me your comment on this dudes...
