anyone experiencing Read Contacts issue? mine keep popping out "Facebook tries to read Contacts" same goes as "Browser tries to read contacts" and also "Whatsapp tries to read Contacts" so darn annoying it keeps popping out no matter I click Deny or Allow (pops up around 3 times).
And if I enter whatsapp, even worst, the pop up is infinite. Had to force shut down the phone.

makulit, 02 Jul 2014hello i got the same issue. please let me know if u find a ... more:-) I solved mine. It's actually very simple.
Zf 5 actually supports the latest Sim with small contact surface, not the old ones with large contact surfaces.
I have tried out with various Sims. Confirmed my old one cannot function in the Zf 5.
Got myself the latest one yesterday, it's working fine since.
Hope you guys find this useful.

After a week of use, I'd give Zenfone 5 a mixed review. Mine is WW version with 2x dual core Atom at 1.6 GHz, 2 GB RAM and 8 GB of flash storage.
Battery life is reasonable and about the same as Galaxy Note 2.
The screen is less colourful than Note2, but actually looks better to my eyes, less tiring and more accurate on colours.
Speed of operations is excellent, although it does have an occasional weird glitch, in my case always with "What's Next" which could really be looked into. Apart from this (and the FB app crash, which is now resolved), the phone is very snappy.
You can specify which SIM to use 3G network of, and which to dial from by default, while both are active at the same time. You can with 3 taps enable/disable any of the SIMs. For some reason it is unable to get own phone number from SIM 2. You can name each SIM so the names make sense to you, instead of SIM1 and SIM2.
Signal is very good, better than both Note and iPhone, not only for 3G but also for Wifi. Didn't test bluetooth. And 4G is not supported at least not on my model.
Camera is very decent in good light, producing sharp and detailed images. It does struggle with fine details like grass or bush but is otherwise very "natural" and clear. In low light, even the much advertised night-mode is quite crappy. And 1600x900 is NOT 2MP.
Video in full HD is very sharp and full of details. Unfortunately it doesn't handle movements very well. Enabling image stabilisation will switch to 720p, which is shockingly bad. I mean, it is worse than what an interlaced 480p camera did 5 years ago. That is obviously not a problem of the sensor, so it must be some kind of software disaster. Stay away from it.
Storage of 8 GB is small, but there's MicroSD slot, which can take up to 64 GB cards. To avoid choppiness on 1080p videos, get class 10 card.
Sound quality is OK on the headphones, though nothing to write home about. The back speaker distorts quite badly in 1-2 kHz frequency range. Not sure if that's because of the back plate or the membrane over the speaker itself.. or possibly even speaker. A little disappointing.
One cut too far: The 3 sensor buttons under the screen are not illuminated, making them invisible in low light, requiring hunting around. I know Zenfone is a compromise to get it into this price range, but come on - how much do 3 LEDs cost?
Feel - despite being quite large, it fits very nicely in hand, even much more with a case (using Nillkin hard case). It is very light, and seemingly well constructed.
My particular one has a fraction of milimeter displaced camera or the hole on back plate, which is possibly a concern over overall manufacturing precision, and a tight, not really easy to remove back plate. But just being able to remove (and replace, if wanted) it is a bonus, even if it doesn't allow you access to battery.
Comparing it with Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - Zenfone is faster, has (in my opinion) a nicer interface, less junk preloaded, slightly longer battery life (and Note2 was praised for long battery life), better camera, and feels more solid/less plasticky.
And you could buy 3 Zenfones 5 for one Note2.
This makes it an incredible value for money.
If you need more power, better camera, more storage space, better screen... then you're probably after Sony Z2, Samsung S5 or Oppo Find 7 anyway.

Asus has released new firmware to address the Facebook crash. Get it from here:
http://www.asus.com/sa-en/support/Download/39/1/0/2/8/
Do note to download the correct version, as you can't mix up SKUs else you'll brick your phone.
Alternatively, Asus Malaysia gives procedure on how to remove the version 11 Facebook app with version 10, which works fine.
That's on this link:
https://www.facebook.com/notes/asus-malaysia/troubleshooting-issues-with-the-latest-facebook-app-update-v11001123/772266482793651
Hope this helps.
