Asus Zenfone AR with Google Tango is coming at CES in January

Vlad, 14 November 2016

Asus is working on the second Google Tango smartphone, according to its CEO, Jerry Shen. The device will be called Zenfone AR and will be revealed at CES in January. It will follow in the footsteps of Lenovo's Phab2 Pro, the first Tango handset, which was announced in June and went on sale at the beginning of this month.

Tango is all about augmented reality (AR), enabling unique use-cases thanks to motion tracking and special depth sensing cameras. A Tango device can recognize and map physical spaces, as well as track objects and project virtual effects in a real-world setting.

Speaking about the upcoming Zenfone AR, Shen said it will come with "advanced performance and functionality at a competitive price". The Zenfone 4 family will apparently arrive in the second quarter of 2017, while in Q3 we should see a standalone VR headset from Asus, with built-in cameras, sensors, and controllers. Unfortunately the Asus CEO didn't share more details about any of these products.

Pricing is another story... wait till you are ready to buy this as ASUS is well-known for releasing their products too late. I'm expecting this to be available 6 months later (around July/August 2017) LOLZ!
